About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator, the Head Swim Team Coach is responsible for the safety, instruction, and training of children participating in the Elk Grove Swim Team. This role involves developing and conducting daily practices, instructing participants aged 5 and older, and correcting swimming stroke techniques. The coach will also facilitate communication between parents, Assistant Coaches, and the Aquatics Coordinator, promote the growth and development of the team, and set training regimens for Assistant Coaches. Additionally, the position requires providing instruction on swimming skills, training and supervising assistant coaches, submitting monthly schedules, and preparing for swim meets. The coach must maintain a commitment to a safe and effective aquatics environment, operate necessary equipment safely, and perform job duties in compliance with district policies and safety rules.

Requirements

  • Must be 16 years of age or older.
  • Previous swimming and coaching experiences.
  • Knowledge of all competitive swimming strokes.
  • Flexibility, communication skills and patience.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in teams and with others.
  • Good knowledge of pertinent safety precautions.
  • Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees.
  • Complete Safety Training for Swim Coaches.
  • American Swim Coach Association member with Level 2 Certification or ability to obtain within first six months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and conduct daily practices.
  • Instruct participants ages 5 and older.
  • Correct various stroke techniques of individual participants.
  • Assist in facilitation of communication between parents, Assistant Coaches and the Aquatics Coordinator.
  • Promote the growth and development of the Elk Grove Swim Team.
  • Set training regimen for the Assistant Coaches and oversee implementation.
  • Provide instruction of swimming skills needed for team participation.
  • Train and supervise all assistant swim coaches.
  • Provide Aquatics Coordinator with a monthly coach’s schedule.
  • Schedule and prepare for swim meets, including line-ups.
  • Swipe in and out daily and complete timesheets for meets.
  • Maintain a commitment to the operation of a safe and effective aquatics environment.
  • Operate any equipment necessary in accomplishing required tasks in a safe manner.
  • Perform the job safely and in compliance with the district policies, procedures, work and safety rules.
