About The Position

The Head Start Teacher works under the supervision of the Center Director and is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment that supports the individual needs of enrolled children. This role involves developing and implementing lesson plans aligned with Head Start standards and school readiness goals, creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment, and supporting individualized learning, including accommodations for children with IEPs and special needs. The teacher will monitor and document child progress using Teaching Strategies GOLD and ChildPlus, complete required screenings, assessments, observations, and documentation accurately and timely, and maintain compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, State Licensing, CACFP, and agency policies. Building positive relationships with children, families, staff, and community partners, promoting cultural awareness and family engagement, and maintaining classroom health, safety, sanitation, and supervision standards are key aspects of the role. Additionally, the teacher will mentor Teacher Assistants, substitutes, and volunteers, submit accurate and timely employee time, attendance, and mileage reports, and utilize Microsoft Word, Outlook, internet applications, and standard office equipment. Maintaining confidentiality and professionalism, serving as a mandated reporter of suspected child abuse or neglect, demonstrating flexibility to work at other positions or centers as needed, and maintaining regular attendance and participating in required training and professional development are also expected.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field; or Associate's degree with at least five (5) years of experience in Early Childhood Education.
CPR Certification
Proficiency with computers, internet applications, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, and standard office equipment.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
