About The Position

The Head Start Teacher II is responsible for the operations of the classroom as well as the supervision of the Assistant Teacher I. This role ensures a safe, nurturing, engaging, enjoyable, and secure learning environment for up to 20 classroom children. The teacher develops, organizes, and implements age-appropriate child education curriculum, including the Creative Curriculum for Preschool, and plans classroom and outdoor experiences that meet diverse developmental stages, interests, and backgrounds. A key aspect of this role is developing and implementing a multicultural curriculum aligned with the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework and supporting children with disabilities and their families through adaptations and IEP goal achievement. The position also supports Dual Language Learner teaching practices, ensures compliance with all relevant regulations, and fosters parent participation as equal partners. The teacher will also complete child-centered home visits, parent-teacher conferences, developmental screenings, and ongoing child assessments.

Requirements

  • Associates, Bachelor or Master Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field with 18 credit hours in child development coursework.
  • At least 6 months experience in direct service delivery to preschool children preferred.
  • Excellent organization, time management, written/verbal communication skills and computer proficiency.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card or be able to obtain one prior to employment.
  • Must pass a Central Registry Background Check, CAN State Registry Check, and Criminal History Check.
  • Must have a valid Arizona Driver’s License and pass an Agency driver’s test.
  • Must have a clean driving record for past 5 years.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility for the supervision, care, and welfare of 20 classroom children to ensure their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Ensure a safe, nurturing, engaging, enjoyable, and secure learning environment.
  • Develops, organizes, and implements age-appropriate child education curriculum (Creative Curriculum for Preschool) Plans classroom and outdoor experiences that meet different developmental stages, interests, temperaments, learning styles, languages, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Develops and implements a multicultural curriculum that utilizes developmentally appropriate practices that meet the needs and interests of students through lesson plans that align with the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework.
  • Effectively serves children with disabilities and their families, making appropriate adaptations for any disabilities and supporting IEP goal achievement. Participates in IEP discussions.
  • Support Dual Language Learner teaching practices with a focus on English Language Acquisition and continued development of the home language.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and Office of Head Start Performance Standards regulations, Arizona licensing requirements, CACFP requirements. and program policies and procedures.
  • Respects, values, supports each child and family background and facilitates parent participation as equal partners in all aspects of the Educational Plans.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with each family, site team members, community agencies, community partners, and grantee staff members.
  • Completing child-centered home visits and parent-teacher conferences for each enrolled child as required.
  • Completes developmental and social-emotional screenings; ASQ and DECA for all children within 45 days of enrollment, and accurately documents child health information.
  • Completes regular and ongoing child assessments according to program guidelines and Learning Genie.
  • Always Implement Active Supervision strategies, indoors and outdoors, following Active Supervision and Traveling Transition policies and procedures.
  • Establish consistent rules and behavioral expectations by using positive guidance methods.
  • Maintain a consistent yet flexible daily schedule where routines are established which enable children to predict events and develop a basic sense of trust.
  • Supporting goals for individual children and ensuring that individual plans are consistently implemented.
  • Complete all required forms and assigned paperwork including CACFP mealtime documentation.
