About The Position

As part of Jefferson County’s Head Start department, the Head Start Site Aide is responsible for providing flexible classroom, kitchen, and operational support across Jefferson County Head Start sites to ensure continuity of services, safe learning environments, and smooth daily operations. This position supports daily staffing coverage needs across five program sites and assists with classroom routines, food service support, site cleanliness, inventory support, and operational readiness. Works closely with teaching, operations, and kitchen staff to support children, families, and program services. Head Start is a no cost, all-inclusive, child-focused, and family-centered early-childhood program for children ages 0-5. A range of individualized services in the areas of education, early childhood development, medical, dental, mental health, nutrition, family support, and parent education.   • Must have a personal vehicle that can be used to travel between five program sites (three in Lakewood, one in Arvada, and one in Wheat Ridge) based on daily coverage needs.
  • Offer of employment contingent upon successful completion of CBI and FBI criminal history, sex offender registry check, child abuse and neglect records check, motor vehicle report, education verification, and/or references.
  • Candidates with convictions related to child abuse, crimes of violence, unlawful sexual behavior, physical assault or battery, and domestic violence will be disqualified.
  • Must have training on: universal precautions, the Child and Adult Care Food Program, and food safety certification within the first 30 days of hire.
  • Must obtain physical examination and tuberculosis test at hire.
  • Must be able to carry/lift loads greater than 35 pounds and transport up to 50 pounds on occasion.
  • 100% of time spent standing and walking.
  • The physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodations for this position include: Standing/walking for entire shift, frequently carrying/lifting loads greater than 35 pounds, and occasionally transporting up to 50 pounds.
  • A valid Colorado driver’s license is required for positions that drive on County Business in either a county or personal vehicle within 30-days of hire or beginning to serve as an intern or volunteer for every position.

Responsibilities

  • Support classroom coverage needs across five Jefferson County Head Start sites based on daily staffing and operational needs, including receiving day-of assignments and adjusting to changing priorities.
  • Assist teachers in creating and maintaining nurturing relationships with children and families while ensuring licensing requirements and active supervision practices are met.
  • Assist children in following classroom routines and provide support for teacher breaks, child restroom needs, meal support, and short-term classroom coverage as needed.
  • Support kitchen operations, including meal preparation support, food service, meal delivery, sanitation practices, and kitchen clean-up in alignment with food safety procedures and program requirements.
  • Assist with receiving, organizing, stocking, and putting away inventory and supplies at assigned sites.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of classrooms, shared spaces, kitchens, storage areas, bathrooms, and site environments.
  • Support operational needs and daily site readiness, including responding to emergent support needs and helping maintain safe, organized, clean, and welcoming environments.
  • Work effectively in fast-paced environments requiring movement between classrooms, kitchens, outdoor spaces, and operational support functions while maintaining safety, organization, and responsiveness.
  • Maintain flexibility and adaptability in supporting varying site conditions, coverage needs, and program priorities as directed by the Center Operations Supervisor.
  • Attend and participate in required staff meetings, trainings, and events, as needed.
  • Adhere to all Head Start policies, procedures, performance standards, and any applicable local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • This position is non-benefit eligible and must work no more than 130 hours per calendar month.
  • Employees are able to earn 1 hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to 48 hours.
