About The Position

Incumbent provides for the establishment, maintenance, and management of classroom activities and providing those services necessary to meet the requirements of the Head Start Performance Standards. This role involves maintaining confidentiality, respecting and observing children's interests, intervening when needed for safety, and enhancing children's play with language, toys, and activities. The teacher will communicate directly with each child at their level, engage constructively, and positively extend children's thinking and actions. Responsiveness to children's needs, questions, and requests is key, as is encouraging and modeling developmentally appropriate social behavior and appropriate expression of emotions. The position requires practicing positive discipline techniques according to NAEYC, Bright from the Start, and Caring for our Children Basics, and remaining attentive, flexible, and supportive during transitions. The teacher will implement daily lesson plans and schedules, record observations in Teaching Strategies GOLD, and organize/maintain learning centers. Responsibilities also include recruiting volunteers, soliciting in-kind contributions, attending required meetings and trainings, and maintaining the cleanliness of classrooms and restrooms. The role serves as an advocate for the Head Start Program, families, and children, implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum based on observations, assessments, and parent/guardian goals. The teacher will maintain order using positive behavior management and complete mandated screenings, assessments, daily health and anecdotal observations, as well as home visits and parent-teacher conferences a minimum of twice a year. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Associate’s Degree in ECE or TCC/CDA with Associate’s Degree (for HS Teacher I)
Bachelor’s Degree in ECE or TCC/CDA with Bachelor’s Degree (for HS Teacher II)
Master’s Degree in ECE or TCC/CDA with Master’s Degree (for HS Teacher III)
One to three years of experience (for Level 2 compensation)
BA/emphasis on infant & toddler development (for $19.36 compensation)
MA/emphasis on infant & toddler development (for $20.09 compensation)

Responsibilities

Maintains confidentiality about issues concerning other staff members, children, and families of Enrichment Services Program.
Respects and observes children's interests. Intervenes when needed to maintain safety. Enhances children's play with language, toys, and activities.

Implements daily lesson plans and daily schedules.
Records observation in Teaching Strategies GOLD.
Organizes and maintains learning centers within the classroom.
Recruits volunteers and solicits in-kind contributions.
Attends meetings, trainings and workshop as required.
Maintains cleanliness of classrooms and adjoining restrooms.
