About The Position

The YMCA OF METROPOLITAN LOS ANGELES is seeking a Head Start Preschool Site Director in Van Nuys, CA. This role is crucial in supporting the Y's mission to strengthen communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Site Director will establish positive, nurturing relationships with children, foster cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers, staff, and partners, and promote the potential of all youth. This leadership position involves guiding staff in supporting children in the classroom, implementing program curriculum focused on skill mastery, and ensuring a quality experience that builds achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.

Requirements

  • Eighteen years or older.
  • Bachelor’s degree in child development.
  • Degree must include: 3 Semester units in Administration or Staff Relations.
  • Degree must include: 3 Semester Units in Infant/Toddler.
  • At least 5 years experience working with children 0-5 in a group child care setting.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Strong character values (respect, responsibility, honesty, caring).
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Emotional maturity.
  • Bachelor’s degree with a Current Child Development Site Supervisor Permit or Program Director Permit.
  • Current approved EMSA First Aid; Adult, Infant and Child CPR Certifications (8 hours).
  • Completion of child abuse prevention training prior to first day in program.
  • Basic Water Safety certification.
  • 9 Hour course in Preventative Health Practices (PHP).
  • Current TB and physical exam.
  • Influenza (limited exceptions), pertussis, and measles vaccination.
  • Physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Ability to plan, lead, and participate in activities.
  • Ability to lift 30-35lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supervising adults, preferred.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
  • Y-USA Team Leader Certification, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, organizes, and implements high-quality licensed infant/toddler Preschool program at assigned location.
  • Ensures high-quality programs through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
  • Maintains full compliance with licensing regulations (Title 22) for the assigned location.
  • Develops positive relations with community organizations as a YMCA representative.
  • Assists with marketing efforts and achieving enrollment goals.
  • Manages budget development, achieves enrollment goals, and secures necessary supplies and equipment for program activities within budget guidelines.
  • Leads on-boarding and training for staff members.
  • Coordinates schedules and workflow to ensure program operates in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Observes, coaches, and provides feedback to staff members at the assigned location.
  • Provides feedback to supervisor regarding staff performance and addresses performance issues in a timely manner.
  • Ensures close visual supervision of children, adhering to specified program ratios, and ensuring no child is left unsupervised or staff alone with a child.
  • Helps children manage behavior using a positive approach, including proactive strategies, redirection, and constructive discipline.
  • Actively supports the YMCA's commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Plans and implements program curriculum and activities focused on skill development, developmentally appropriate practices, YMCA values, and established guidelines.
  • Adheres to program standards, including safety and cleanliness, maintains site and equipment, and keeps required program records.
  • Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child and works with staff to support each child’s development.
  • Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, engaging them as volunteers and connecting them to the YMCA.
  • Attends and participates in fundraising activities, family events, program activities, staff meetings, and trainings as assigned.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
  • Follows reporting procedures and proactively responds to situations to ensure a safe environment.
  • Understands and complies with current federal, state, local regulations, YMCA policies and procedures, and license program standards.
  • Maintains positive relationships with parents, other YMCA team members, and community partners.
  • Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
  • Understands NAEYC programming and standards and supports their development and delivery with staff, administration, and families.
  • Upholds YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting, and risk management.
  • Demonstrates the Six Pillars of Character (Trustworthiness, Citizenship, Respect, Responsibility, Caring and Fairness) and YMCA Core Values (Caring, Respect, Honesty, Responsibility).
