About The Position

MAHUBE-OTWA is seeking a Head Start Mental Health Coordinator to provide mental health consultation and support to staff and families, promoting the emotional well-being of young children. This role involves collaborating with educators to implement mental health best practices, conducting assessments, developing mental health strategies, providing training and resources to staff, and engaging with families to support their children's mental health needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's (BS or BA) degree in health, education, mental health, family services, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Five years of experience in delivery of comprehensive services for families with children ages birth-5 years including planning, organizing, and supervisory skills; or a demonstrated ability to fulfill the job responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of health, mental health, nutrition, family systems, early childhood development, and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Ability to make decisions relating to program operations.
  • Knowledge and ability to develop an effective working relationship with partners.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Resourceful, flexible, adaptable, and demonstrate commitment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • First Aid and CPR certification required.
  • Computer skills including, but not limited to, email, internet, data entry, and computer files.
  • Ability to honor private/confidential information.
  • Valid Driver’s License, vehicle insurance, good driving record, and willingness to use personal vehicle in the course of employment.
  • DHS NetStudy clearance required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mental health consultation and support to staff and families.

  • Engage in problem resolution, assess need/problem objectively, and manage crisis situations.
  • Work to develop a positive team approach to meeting the needs of children and families.
