The Head Start Home Base Teacher plans and implements a weekly home-based program for up to 10 children ages 3–5 and their families. The position coordinates integrated child development, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services using the Head Start curriculum. Supplemental social-emotional curricula are prioritized and used alongside the Head Start curriculum to build the self-regulation skills children need to succeed in a preschool classroom. The teacher supports mental health and disability services and provides group socialization experiences for children and families twice monthly, in accordance with program, state, and federal guidelines. The program emphasizes partnership with parents and children, celebration of diversity, and an atmosphere of support, respect, trust, safety, and belonging. Its 2024–2029 goals include implementing Conscious Discipline to support social-emotional needs and self-regulation; strengthening children’s attendance; providing comprehensive school- and life-readiness services through a two-generation approach; and hiring and retaining staff committed to its mission and philosophy, including trauma-informed, relationship-based early childhood practice.
