About The Position

Provides planning, control, and supervision in the management of one or more of the Head Start Centers. Coach, mentor, supervise and train all Head Start center staff. Provide short term and long-range planning for service delivery and training; act as an integrator of components, including health, nutrition, disabilities; function as liaison and information conduit between central office leadership staff and community collaborators. This position also has oversight of facility management.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Human Services, or a related field with 15 credit hours in early childhood courses
Three years of progressively responsible professional experience which demonstrates significant supervisory and administrative responsibilities and a strong knowledge of theories and practices of Early Childhood Education/Development with particular focus on prenatal care and infant/toddler development
Valid Florida driver’s License and proof of insurance and provide own vehicle
Within 30 days of employment must be Pediatric CPR & First Aide certified
Within 30 days of employment must be A State of Florida Child Care and Education Program Director Credential
Completed 45 credit hours through the Department of Children and Families (DCF)
Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices for early childhood.
Knowledge of adult supervision and counseling practices.
Knowledge of behavior modification theories and practices relating to early childhood development.
Knowledge of current educational techniques and practices relating to early childhood development.
Knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards relating to educating children.
Knowledge of Head Start/Early Head Start program accreditation requirements.
Ability to determine and prioritize demanding workload while being flexible to emergent/unplanned needs and situations.
Knowledge of community resources.
Knowledge and experience balancing regulatory requirements with budget constraints and growing community needs.
Significant decision making and problem solving in many areas including the allocation of resources to program components, supervisory issues, scheduling and provision of program services.
Ability to handle highly stressful and sensitive situations in a professional manner.
Ability to exercise tact and discretion in all employee interactions.

Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Human Services or a related field with 18 credit hours in early childhood courses

Must have a valid Florida Driver's License and proof of insurance and provide own vehicle
Within 30 days of employment must be Pediatric CPR & First Aid certified and A State of Florida Child Care and Education Program Director Credential, within the probationary period
Proof of successful completion of the following courses: 10 hours Developmentally Appropriate Practices for Pre-Schoolers or Infant/Toddlers Course; 6 hours Child Growth and Development; 6 hours Behavioral Observation & Screening; 8 hours Health, Safety & Nutrition; 4 hours Identifying and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect; 6 hours Child Care Facility rules and Regulations; 10 hours Special Needs Course.
Maintain the ability to pass the background checks required for the position. These background checks may include but are not limited to: Criminal History Background Check using Florida Department of Education (FDLE) Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Level 1 and Level 2 Background screening (Ch. 435 Florida Statutes) Child Abuse, Abandonment and Neglect Record Check using the State Automated Child Welfare Information System (SACWIS) Sex Offender and Sexual Predator record check using the list maintained by the Florida Department of Education (FDLE)

Nice To Haves

Prior Head Start/Early Head Start experience a plus.
Bilingual English/Spanish skills highly desirable.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and/or weekends.

Responsibilities

Oversees education program, in cooperation with Operations Manager and Director
Supervises meal preparation and service.
Monitors the inventory of site materials, supplies, and equipment; makes purchases for the center, staying within the site budget.
Assures accurate, complete, and confidential maintenance of employee and client records.
Assesses current and future facility needs, and makes preliminary arrangements with landlords to rent buildings or classrooms.
Assures that all center-level documentation and reports are complete, up-to-date, and accurate.
Reviews work of Senior Case Managers, Teachers and all the staff assigned to a Center to assure adherence to departmental policies and procedures; and provide procedural advices and direction.
Monitors and conducts staff performance evaluations, work plans, development plans attendance/schedules, certifications, required documents and timecards.
Organizes a Parent Committee, and authorizes a representative to the Agency Policy Committee.
Attends meetings and trainings, as requested, to keep abreast of trends in the various service areas.
Ensures teaching staff progress towards educational requirements and Professional Development Plans as supported by the Performance Standards.
Arranges and facilitates regular meetings with staff and provide for mandated trainings and updates to policies and procedures.
Monitors, reports, and provides feedback for all employee related accidents.
Monitors, evaluates, and ensures training of classroom volunteers
Attends case management meetings, consultations, and staff meetings as necessary.
Coordinates with local agencies, community service organizations and educational providers and partners.
Designs and delivers training and formal presentations.
Participates in and assist with community events and provide information on the Early Head Start program.
Performs other duties as requested.
