About The Position

West Central Community Action is hiring Classroom Substitutes for all WCCA Head Start Classroom locations across Iowa, including Harlan, Denison, Council Bluffs, Atlantic, Mapleton, Hastings, and Red Oak. The primary responsibility of an Early Head Start/Head Start Classroom Substitute is to provide coverage where needed to ensure optimal services for children and families, often with little notice. This role operates in accordance with Head Start Program Performance Standards, Head Start Policies and Procedures, and State of Iowa Licensing Codes. Substitutes must be able to work effectively with children and families from diverse cultural, economic, and social backgrounds. The age range of children served is 6 weeks to 5 years.

Requirements

  • High School/GED is required.
  • Must have the ability to work with children and families from various cultural, economic & social backgrounds.
  • Must have a current and valid driver's license.
  • Must have dependable transportation.
  • Must have auto liability insurance.
  • Must complete Iowa Mandatory Reporter training for Child Abuse and make good faith reports regarding suspected abuse to DHS as needed.
  • All substitutes are required to attend scheduled pre-service and professional development training days as directed.

Nice To Haves

  • An associate's degree in early childhood education is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Cover duties where coverage is lacking to optimize services to children and families.
  • Work with children and families from various cultural, economic & social backgrounds.
  • Participate in and support all program activities.
  • Follow written Code of Conduct, WCCA Policies & Procedures, Head Start Policies and Procedures, and Head Start Performance Standards at all times.
  • Advocate and recruit for all WCCA Programs including Head Start and its clientele.
  • Assist in keeping accurate attendance, nutrition, in-line and other records/reports as needed.
  • Complete Iowa Mandatory Reporter training for Child Abuse and make good faith reports regarding suspected abuse to DHS as needed.
  • Attend scheduled pre-service and professional development training days as directed.
