About The Position

The Head Start Assistant Teacher works alongside the Head Start Teacher to create an engaging learning environment for young children, encourage curiosity and independence, and support parents in advocating for their children. The position is full-time at 36 hours per week, year-round for 12 months, and is a union position located in Willmar, Minnesota. The assistant teacher also helps with recruitment and enrollment, child transportation and bus monitoring, and light janitorial duties as needed.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years old.
At least one year of experience working with children ages 3–5.
Current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or an Early Childhood degree, or ability to obtain the credential or degree within two years.
CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain certification.
Computer skills.
Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
Reliability.
Knowledge of child development or willingness to learn.
Problem-solving and conflict-management skills.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with the Head Start Teacher to plan engaging classroom activities.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records.
Lead or support health and nutrition activities in the classroom.
Substitute for the Head Start Teacher when needed.
Perform light janitorial duties when necessary.
Support program recruitment and enrollment efforts.
Safely monitor the Head Start bus and transport children to and from the center.
Support parents in becoming advocates for their children.
