About The Position

Nichols College, a member of NCAA Division III and the Conference of New England (CNE), invites applications for the position of Head Softball Coach. Located in Dudley, Massachusetts, Nichols College sponsors a competitive athletics program that values academic success, leadership development, sportsmanship, and the overall student-athlete experience. This is a full-time, 12-month salaried position responsible for the leadership, organization, administration, and continued development of the softball program. The Head Softball Coach is expected to provide strategic vision for the program while fostering a positive and competitive culture that aligns with the mission and values of Nichols College and NCAA Division III athletics. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to recruiting, student-athlete development, academic achievement, alumni engagement, and competitive excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Collegiate coaching and/or playing experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the NCAA Division III philosophy.
  • Strong knowledge of softball fundamentals, player development, and team management.
  • Proven ability to recruit and retain student-athletes.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and external constituents.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Computer proficiency and familiarity with recruiting and video platforms.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
  • Ability to perform physical duties associated with coaching, including light lifting and on-field instruction.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous collegiate coaching and recruiting experience.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
  • Experience with fundraising, alumni engagement, and program development initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, attract, and retain qualified student-athletes who align with the academic and athletic mission of Nichols College.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive recruiting strategy that meets roster and enrollment goals established by the Division of Athletics.
  • Organize, plan, and supervise all team practices, competitions, conditioning activities, and team functions.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, sportsmanship, leadership, and academic success within the softball program.
  • Support and monitor student-athlete academic progress, retention, and overall well-being.
  • Coordinate team travel, scheduling, equipment purchasing, and budget management.
  • Oversee program operations including game preparation, film breakdown, scouting reports, and practice planning.
  • Build meaningful relationships with alumni, families, and supporters of Nichols Softball.
  • Assist with fundraising initiatives, alumni engagement, and community outreach efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with all NCAA, Conference of New England, and Nichols College rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with Athletics staff, Admissions, Student Affairs, Athletic Communications, Sports Medicine, Strength & Conditioning, and Facilities personnel.
  • Attend departmental meetings, conference meetings, professional development opportunities, and institutional events as assigned.
  • Obtain and maintain Nichols College driving certification.
  • Serve as an active and engaged member of the Division of Athletics and contribute positively to departmental culture and initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
