About The Position

The Head Softball Coach, under direction, is responsible for the development, management, and successful coaching of the TAMIU Softball program, to include scheduling, recruiting, equipment management, reporting scores and statistics, and website updating. This role involves managing and operating within budget parameters, ensuring strict adherence to NCAA by-laws and Lone Star Conference regulations, and maintaining institutional compliance rules, policies, and procedures. The coach is also responsible for ensuring the satisfactory academic performance and the physical, emotional, and social welfare of student-athletes, establishing a safe environment, and contributing to positive working relationships. Additional duties include supervising assistant coaches, propagating a public relations program, managing sports camps and fund-raising events, and coordinating schedules and reporting countable hours. Long-range planning, departmental training, and compliance with policy manuals are also expected. Off-season coaching duties may be required.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
Two or more seasons of successful college coaching experience.
Experience includes recruiting student athletes, marketing, scheduling, equipment budgeting/management, and facility care.
Knowledge of Word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Demonstrated public relations and interpersonal skills to interact effectively and professionally with the University community, outside community, and the press.
Knowledge of NCAA and Conference rules.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Commit to student learning and success, as well as a dedication to growth, development, innovation, and improvement.
Commitment and capabilities to abide by NCAA and Conference rules.
Evening and/or weekend work may occasionally be required.
Travel required.
Position requires on campus, face-to-face interactions.
Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

Responsibilities

Development, management, and successful coaching of the TAMIU Softball program.
Scheduling, recruiting, equipment management, reporting scores and statistics, and website updating.
Manage and operate within budget parameters, without exception, and submit all receipts and budget reports on time.
Ensure strict adherence to all NCAA by-laws and Lone Star Conference regulations.
Ensure adherence with established institutional compliance rules, policies, and procedures as well as ethical standards of behavior.
Ensure satisfactory academic performance of student-athletes.
Ensure the physical, emotional, and social welfare of student-athletes.
Establish and ensure a safe environment for student-athletes that includes providing education about and methods for discussing and resolving harassment or discrimination.
Contribute to the maintenance of good working relationships with all athletics staff members and student-athletes through a positive and constructive approach.
Maximize the team’s potential/abilities, keeping athletes eligible, and retaining athletes through graduation.
Supervise and mentor assistant coaches and coaching assistants.
Assist to propagate a comprehensive public relations program.
Manage the operations of sports camps and/or clinics.
Manage all department fund-raising and booster events in accordance with NCAA, Lone Star Conference, and institutional rules, policies, and procedures.
Learn, understand, and adhere to all NCAA guidelines and maintain up-to-date roster, squad lists, and other information using the Compliance Assistant Internet (CAI) program.
Coordinate and develop organized schedules and submit weekly countable hour reports according to NCAA policy.
Participate in long-range planning and assessment, attend all departmental training sessions and meetings, and read and comply with all departmental policy manuals.
Perform additional off-season coaching duties as required.
