About The Position

Montrose School seeks a part-time Varsity Softball Head Coach for March 15 through May 19, 2027. The coach is responsible for all aspects of the varsity team, including organizing and supervising practices and games and managing uniforms and equipment. Practices are held four times per week, starting at 3:30 PM, and last approximately 1.5–2 hours. Game days require a greater time commitment, but there are no weekend commitments. The coach may need to transport the team to and from team events in a school-registered vehicle.

The coach is expected to coordinate with the Assistant Coach, JV Coaches, and Athletic Director to create a unified softball program. Activities and conduct must meet appropriate professional standards and adhere to Montrose School’s philosophy and mission. Montrose is an independent school for girls in grades 6–12, inspired by the teachings of the Catholic Church, located in Medfield, Massachusetts.

Requirements

• Prior playing and coaching experience.
• Understanding of the rules and regulations of softball.
• Knowledge of effective skills and strategies that contribute to team growth and success.
• Bachelor’s degree.
• CPR certification; may be completed upon hiring.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to drive.

Responsibilities

• Organize and supervise varsity team practices and games.
• Manage team uniforms and equipment.
• Assess players’ skills, monitor them during practices and competition, and guide their improvement.
• Instill respect, team spirit, passion, teamwork, and dedication.
• Help athletes improve their skills, confidence, and commitment.
• Transport the team to and from team events in a school-registered vehicle when necessary.
• Coordinate with the Assistant Coach, JV Coaches, and Athletic Director to create a unified softball program.
• Ensure activities and behavior meet appropriate professional standards and adhere to the school’s philosophy and mission.
