About The Position

The Head Sander Offbearer supports the Paint Room Department by preparing and sanding wood parts to achieve a smooth, high-quality finish. The role includes removing protruding wood fibers, smoothing edges with an edge sander, inspecting incoming parts and completed work, and helping coworkers as needed. The position requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols and work procedures, and the ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Additional duties may be assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

• Basic reading ability to obtain product-identifying information from tickets.
• Knowledge of parts, specifications, characteristics, finishes, physical dimensions, and wood.
• Knowledge of production line-up schedules and job ticket labels to identify and verify parts.
• Ability to stay on task and follow safety guidelines and work-process procedures.
• Knowledge of quality standards.
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with others.
• Good hand-eye coordination.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Interest in learning and professional growth.
• Genuine interest in finishing, wood, and paint.
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.

• Experience removing wood fibers and identifying trash parts.
• Experience applying sanding materials to achieve desired results.

Responsibilities

• Smooth wood surfaces with sandpaper in preparation for finishing.
• Operate an edge sander to smooth the sides and edges of large pieces.
• Prepare sandpaper and sanding sponges for use.
• Check signs and part labels for material application descriptions.
• Inspect incoming parts for defects such as burrs, splinters, and excess glue.
• Apply appropriate sanding techniques to achieve quality and smoothness.
• Inspect completed work for quality.
• Assist coworkers as needed.
• Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
