About The Position

Simmons University, an NCAA Division III member and associate member of The New England Men’s and Women’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), is seeking a Head Rowing Coach. This position reports to the Director of Athletics and Recreation and is responsible for the overall direction of the rowing program. Key responsibilities include recruiting and retaining academically and athletically qualified student athletes, supervising assistant coaches, managing the program's budget, providing technical coaching, and driving innovation in fundraising and alumni engagement. Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of college coaching experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulations governing recruitment, player eligibility, and related functions is required.
  • Applicant must hold a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to drive a boat trailer.
  • Ability to maintain and care for crew equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Head coaching experience preferred.
  • Collegiate playing experience is also preferred.
  • US Rowing Coaching Certifications (Level 1, 2, or 3).

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the NCAA Division III Rowing program in accordance with NCAA Bylaws and NEWMAC guidelines.
  • Provide general leadership and training for the rowing team and direct workouts.
  • Instruct student-athletes on specific techniques, skills, and strategies.
  • Establish goals for each position and assess performance through evaluations and feedback.
  • Manage all aspects of planning and executing a team training trip.
  • Coordinate the recruitment and retention process of academic and athletically qualified student athletes in accordance with NCAA guidelines.
  • Maintain a team culture of discipline and respect, addressing grievances, and developing a framework for corrective actions.
  • Maintain a balanced team fund account.
  • Maintain all rowing equipment, including coaches’ launches and motors, boat trailer, van/truck vehicle, hitch & lights, Cox boxes, oars, and shells.
  • Maintain Sports Center rowing tanks, rowing ergometers, and weights.
  • Direct off-season shell & equipment storage.
  • Create a competition schedule in collaboration with the Assistant Athletic Director.
  • Effective budget planning/fundraising and adherence to university policies.
  • Maintain a commitment to excellent customer and/or student service and possess ethical and responsible decision-making.
  • Demonstrate exemplary personal conduct and serve as a role model for student athletes.
