About The Position

Takeda Development Center Americas, Inc. is seeking a Head, R&D Automation Platform to lead the Research and Development data automation efforts. The goal is to support Takeda R&D's vision of creating a development engine and ecosystem that provides optimal clinical data control and quality in a predictable, automated, and cost-effective way. This role involves collaborating with the system and architecture team to drive decisions on end-to-end systems selection and implementation, process improvement, and data standards opportunities to optimize the use of automation and AI/ML. The position requires influential strategic, execution, and delivery leadership both internally and externally with vendors and partners. Responsibilities include overseeing the in-house development, deployment, and maintenance of automated tools, scripts, and programs to enhance the speed and quality of clinical trial data management. The role also involves providing strategic vision for long-term delivery innovation, partnering with stakeholders in the global data program to define priority use cases and execution plans, developing test and deploy timelines, defining and developing Proof of Concept approaches, selecting vendors, developing and testing prototypes, and creating an operationalization and roll-out roadmap for prototyped use cases. The Head, R&D Automation Platform will support executive leadership in achieving the vision and direction for the global data program, reporting on project progress, issues, plans, and critical path schedules. This role requires visible engagement across the organization to ensure transformational impact. Up to 25% domestic travel may be required to meet stakeholders for R&D Engagement week, and up to 75% remote work is allowed.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Medical Informatics, Analytics, Bioinformatics, or related field, plus 11 years of related experience
  • Lead enterprise-wide automation initiatives using Robotic Process Automation, Intelligent Document Processing, and supervised machine learning techniques
  • Define and manage product strategy, scope, and release roadmap for automation and data science platforms exceeding $10M in annual operating budgets
  • Manage global product and engineering teams to deliver software automation tools for data capture, processing, and reporting in clinical and safety domains
  • Lead interdisciplinary teams to develop and deploy data analytics platforms for healthcare programs involving clinical or pharmacovigilance data

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Research and Development data automation efforts to support Takeda R&D's vision to create a development engine and ecosystem that provides optimal clinical data control and quality in a predictable, automated & cost-effective way
  • In collaboration with the system and architecture team, drive decisions on end-to-end systems selection & implementation, process improvement and data standards opportunities to ensure and optimize the use of automation and AI/ML
  • Show influential strategic, execution and delivery leadership both within Takeda and outside of Takeda with vendors and partners
  • Oversee in-house built, deployment and maintenance of automated tools, scripts, and programs to increase management speed and quality of clinical trial data
  • Provide strategic vision for long-term delivery innovation
  • Partners with relevant stakeholders within the global data program to define priority use cases and set up execution plan
  • Develop test & deploy timeline for top priority use cases
  • Define & develop Proof of Concept approach for top priority use cases
  • Select vendors (when available), develop & test prototypes
  • Create operationalization & roll-out roadmap for prototyped use cases, including key activities, milestones, requirements for handing off integration to adjacent functions
  • Supports executive leadership to achieve the vision and direction for the global data program
  • Reports on progress of projects, issues/plans, and critical path schedules to executive leadership
  • Visibly engages across the organization to ensure transformational impact
