About The Position

The Executive Director, Neuromuscular Disease (NMD) Marketing is responsible for shaping and executing U.S. marketing strategy across Biogen’s NMD portfolio. This role leads all aspects of brand strategy and execution for SMA and ALS while helping prepare the organization for future U.S. launches. Key areas of accountability include brand planning, positioning, message development, promotional strategy, PRC oversight, campaign execution, and in-market performance management to ensure each brand is positioned for sustained growth and impact. The role operates within a highly matrixed environment and requires close partnership across Medical, Market Access, Patient Services, BIO, Insights & Analytics, Sales, Finance, and other critical cross-functional teams. The Executive Director will define and steward brand stories, shape the customer experience, and ensure coordinated delivery of strategy across channels and stakeholders while leading and developing a high-performing team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree Required; Advanced degree preferred
  • 15+ years of experience in the US Commercial pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
  • Experience in rare disease preferred
  • Strong analytical and leadership skills, including creative, strategic mindset
  • Outstanding relationship building and communication skills, including ability to navigate throughout a matrixed organization (and partnered companies) with individuals at all levels
  • Strategic agility and the ability to translate complex market dynamics into clear marketing priorities and actionable plans.
  • Strong enterprise mindset with the ability to influence across functions, align diverse stakeholders, and drive coordinated execution in a matrixed environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end U.S. marketing strategy for SMA and ALS, including brand planning, positioning, message development, campaign execution, and performance management.
  • Prepare the organization for future U.S. NMD launches by shaping launch strategy, building readiness plans, and ensuring strong cross-functional coordination across commercial and medical partners.
  • Define and evolve brand stories for key customer audiences, ensuring clear, differentiated narratives aligned to brand objectives and portfolio strategy.
  • Provide leadership across branding, promotional strategy, PRC processes, and tactical execution to ensure materials are compliant, effective, and aligned with business priorities.
  • Partner closely with Medical, Market Access, Patient Services, BIO, and Insights & Analytics to translate customer and market insights into integrated marketing plans.
  • Monitor brand performance and market dynamics, leveraging analytics, insights, and competitive intelligence to identify opportunities, mitigate risks, and optimize execution.
  • Manage and optimize operational expenditures by overseeing budgets, tracking spend against forecasts, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and ensuring financial discipline across projects and operations.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing marketing team while fostering collaboration, accountability, and excellence.
