Head of Trading Technology (Director), Asset Management (Director, PL)
About The Position
Schwab Technology Services supports how clients manage their money through innovative and reliable technology products and services. This role provides technology leadership at Schwab Asset Management, building scalable, cloud-enabled platforms for trade analytics and execution across on-premises and cloud environments. The position drives the evolution of a next-generation trading platform spanning AI-enabled digital advice and discretionary order management, while partnering with business teams on strategic and regulatory outcomes. The role combines hands-on technical leadership with platform strategy, data engineering, and close collaboration with business, engineering, and product teams. It includes leading a high-performing team, managing vendor relationships, strengthening DevOps and production models, and improving engineering processes and collaboration.
Requirements
- 15+ years of experience in financial services technology.
- 5+ years of experience with enterprise end-to-end best-execution, directed, and trade-away trading workflows.
- 5+ years of experience with trading order management systems (OMS), such as BlackRock Aladdin, Charles River, or a similar platform.
- Experience with execution management systems (EMS), such as Virtu Valor or similar platforms.
- 5+ years of people leadership experience.
- 3+ years implementing or operating on a cloud platform.
- Strategic experience setting the vision for trading systems and support to drive operational efficiency and minimize disruption.

Responsibilities
- Lead development and modernization of order management and trade execution platforms, ensuring scalable, compliant, cloud-native solutions aligned with business strategy.
- Define and execute technology strategy across the trading domain, driving innovation, platform optimization, and alignment with regulatory and client experience goals.
- Partner with business, engineering, and product teams to define trading architecture for an AI-enabled Digital Advice platform, shape solution designs, and deliver outcomes through agile and co-development models.
- Build and lead a high-performing team.
- Manage vendor relationships.
- Strengthen DevOps and production models.
- Continuously improve engineering processes and collaboration.
