About The Position

This is an exploratory conversation for a Head of Product Design role. The company, Subconscious, is building intelligence to run the economy, starting with a simulator for business decisions using causal experiments on simulated markets. The long-term ambition is to help businesses discover unmet demand and build around what people actually need. The Head of Product Design will own product design strategy, customer research, interaction standards, and the design hiring plan. This role involves working with product engineering and research to make complex methods legible without concealing uncertainty, shaping the design system around actual customer workflows, and setting the functional roadmap and staffing/spending priorities with the founding team. It is a hands-on leadership role. The first 90 days would involve observing customers, designing and testing a coherent workflow, and developing evidence displays that distinguish estimates, uncertainty, assumptions, and unsupported conclusions. Progress will be judged by customers completing important tasks with less assistance and interpreting results more accurately.

Requirements

  • Led design for a complex technical or enterprise product and can show shipped work, user evidence, and your role in the outcome.
  • Combine interaction and visual craft with research judgment, strong writing, and a practical understanding of implementation.
  • Can build a design function while personally prototyping, testing, and refining the product.
  • Evidence of judgment, execution, and leadership.
  • Share an existing portfolio case where you made a complex decision or workflow easier to understand.
  • Explain the research, tradeoffs, shipped result, and evidence of improvement.
  • Bring your questions about our product, evidence, team, finances, and the authority attached to the role.
