About The Position

equipifi is seeking its first full-time, in-house legal counsel. This role is for a generalist with fintech experience who will be responsible for the commercial contracting function from start to finish. The Head of Legal will act as a business partner to Sales and Partnerships, and will establish the foundation for a scalable legal department. Reporting to the CFO, this individual will have the opportunity to build the legal function from the ground up and contribute to equipifi's growth. The role requires a proactive approach, a willingness to innovate, and a focus on achieving positive customer outcomes while ensuring legal protection.

Requirements

  • 3-5+ years of in-house legal experience at a fintech, payments, lending, or B2B SaaS company.
  • Experience as the first or second attorney in a hyper-growth company.
  • Active bar admission in good standing.
  • High emotional intelligence (EQ) with the ability to work effectively with diverse individuals.
  • Ability to quickly understand and identify key issues in complex legal documents (e.g., 40-page MSAs).
  • Skill in explaining legal risk in easily understandable terms.
  • Sufficient fluency in fintech and lending to engage in regulatory conversations.
  • A proactive approach focused on enabling business growth and finding solutions.
  • Ability to move quickly and find paths to 'yes'.

Responsibilities

  • Own the contract playbook, standard form library, redline positions, vendor management framework, and outside counsel relationships.
  • Systematize and build scalable processes for MSAs, order forms, NDAs, and partnership agreements.
  • Serve as a 'yes-first' legal partner to Sales and Partnerships, facilitating deal closure.
  • Respond to legal inquiries, provide fast redline turnarounds, and offer clear, understandable legal advice.
  • Ensure deals progress efficiently by being an accessible and responsive legal resource.
  • Maintain fluency in BNPL and fintech regulations to provide clear and calibrated answers to compliance questions.
  • Elevate company maturity by acting as a sound expert to ensure compliance and build customer trust during scaling.
