Head of Legal

OuttakeNew York, NY
Onsite

About The Position

Outtake exists to empower and facilitate trust for a digital-first world. Today, impersonation, fraud, AI-driven scams, and identity abuse spread faster than any security team can respond to. So we built something different: an agentic AI platform that proactively detects, monitors and takes down impersonators and automates protection in hours, not weeks. Built by ex-Palantir, ex-CTO/founders, and ex-Notion engineers, Outtake is designed for clarity, autonomy, and velocity. Our goal is ambitious: become the trust layer of the modern internet. And we intend to do it with a lean, dense, exceptionally talented team. This is a commercial-first legal leadership role focused on enabling revenue through deal execution, partnership structuring, and direct support of enterprise sales. You will own how legal supports and accelerates go-to-market, working side by side with sales and leadership to structure, negotiate, and close high value deals. This is not a traditional compliance or advisory role, it is a hands-on execution role where legal is embedded directly into the sales process. You will act as a deal partner to the business, ensuring contracts move quickly, risk is managed pragmatically, and legal becomes a competitive advantage in closing enterprise customers.

Requirements

  • 6–10 years of legal experience, including time at a top tier law firm (T14 background strongly preferred) and in house experience at a startup or technology company.
  • Strong experience negotiating enterprise commercial agreements, including high value contracts, partnerships, and multi party deal structures.
  • Proven ability to work directly with sales teams and support deal execution in fast moving environments.
  • Experience structuring agreements involving data, AI, or regulated products is strongly preferred.
  • High ownership mindset with the ability to operate independently and drive outcomes without heavy process or oversight.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex legal concepts and drive alignment across technical and business stakeholders.
  • Ability to operate in ambiguity, make decisions quickly, and balance legal risk with business priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience at high growth or high talent density companies such as Palantir, Meta, Stripe, or similar.
  • Negotiated large scale enterprise deals ($10M+), multi party agreements, or complex partnership structures.
  • Worked on trust and safety, data governance, or AI related legal frameworks.
  • Built or scaled an in house legal function from early stage to growth.

Responsibilities

  • Own and lead all commercial legal activity, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating enterprise customer agreements, partnership contracts, and multi party deal structures.
  • Partner directly with sales and GTM teams to support active deal cycles, joining negotiations, resolving legal blockers, and accelerating time to close.
  • Structure complex commercial arrangements, including enterprise agreements, data sharing partnerships, and multi stakeholder contracts involving regulated data and AI driven products.
  • Develop standardized contract templates, fallback positions, and negotiation frameworks that reduce friction and increase deal velocity across the pipeline.
  • Act as the primary legal counterpart in high value negotiations, balancing risk tolerance with business objectives to enable revenue generation.
  • Translate legal and regulatory constraints into practical deal structures that allow the business to move forward without unnecessary delay.
  • Build and own the internal legal function, consolidating work currently handled by multiple external firms into a centralized, execution focused capability.
  • Manage external counsel selectively for specialized matters, while ensuring core commercial and product work is handled in house.
  • Support product and engineering teams on legal considerations related to trust and safety, fraud, identity abuse, and data usage, ensuring compliance without slowing product velocity.
  • Design and maintain frameworks for privacy, data protection, and regulatory compliance across jurisdictions, including U.S., EU, and UK requirements.
  • Advise leadership on legal risk, deal strategy, and regulatory exposure, providing clear recommendations that enable fast decision making.
  • Support corporate and strategic initiatives, including fundraising, board processes, and company level governance as needed.

Benefits

  • 100% company-paid medical, dental, and vision for employees.
  • Flexible PTO.
