Johnson & Johnson plans to separate its Orthopaedics business into a standalone company, DePuy Synthes, within 18 to 24 months. Should you accept this position, you would become an employee of DePuy Synthes post-transaction. The Head of Infrastructure Enablement Digital R&D will own the development infrastructure, CI/CD, automated test, and deployment frameworks, enabling rapid, repeatable, and compliant delivery of embedded, edge, and cloud software for the robotics platform. This role is located in Boston, MA, Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Warsaw, IN, or Raynham, MA, with other DePuy Synthes locations considered. The Sr. Director of SW Infrastructure (which this role is identified as) will report to the VP Digital R&D Orthopedics.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Computer Science or related
  • ~10+ years experience in DevOps/Infrastructure with exposure to embedded and cloud systems.
  • Hands on with CI/CD tools (GitLab/GitHub CI, Jenkins), containerization, build systems for embedded toolchains, and HIL/test lab automation.
  • Strong security tooling experience and knowledge of SBOM, SCA, and regulatory implications for software supply chain.
  • Operationally rigorous, service-oriented leader who scales developer productivity while ensuring compliance and security.
  • Ability to work across multiple locations and internal customers
  • Wide perspective and systematic view that can integrate across a variety of platforms

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting regulated medical-device software delivery and hardware test labs.
  • Familiarity with compliance/audit evidence practices.

Responsibilities

  • Design and operate CI/CD pipelines for embedded, clinical, and cloud components, including reproducible build systems, artifact repositories, and release controls.
  • Build and maintain middleware SW which supports clinical applications and data management.
  • Implement SAST/DAST/SCA, static/dynamic analysis, fuzzing, and security gating integrated into pipelines.
  • Lead overall SW architecture for multiple platforms and clinical applications
  • Lead Cybersecurity implementation across the platforms with tight regulatory guidance
  • Manage SBOM generation, dependency management, and supplier/vendor SDK governance.
  • Define deployment, rollback, and observability patterns for clinical/fielded devices (edge/cloud)
  • Enable traceable build and release evidence for QA/RA; support audit readiness and regulatory submissions.
  • Drive platform reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency for development and test infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with Product, Robotics, Navigation, to align infra capabilities with roadmaps.
