About The Position

We are seeking our first Head of Design to lead the craft, standards, and team responsible for the user interface of our software. The primary mission is to establish Hospitable as the premier-designed product in the short-term rental software market, ensuring an effortless user experience. This role involves building and leading a small team of product designers while remaining actively involved in design work. The Head of Design will report directly to the CEO.

Requirements

• A design leader who has set the quality bar at a product-led SaaS company within the last 5 years.
• Experience raising the standard of designers through direct feedback, hiring, and high expectations.
• Proven ownership of design direction end-to-end, from discovery through shipped features, with a track record of demonstrating impact.
• Must be hands-on and lead by example with personal design work, not solely through review.
• Must have kept hands-on with design craft in the last 3 years, not moved to pure management.
• Strong skills in research and briefing, in addition to visual polish.
• Strong product thinking; ability to shape product development and collaborate as an equal with Product and Engineering leadership.
• High agency and ownership, comfortable leveraging lean setups and modern AI tooling in a remote, low-bureaucracy environment.
• Proficiency in design tools such as Whimsical for mockups and Figma for designs.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in the short-term rental, travel, hospitality, or proptech domain.

Responsibilities

• Set the overall design vision for the product, aligning with the company's long-term strategy.
• Lead the design of the entire platform, ensuring intuitive interactions, elegant screens, and enjoyable features.
• Take ownership of the highest-stakes design work, including discovery, research, prototyping, visual design, and interaction design.
• Own and maintain the design language, style guide, and component library.
• Reduce complexity and eliminate inconsistencies within the design system.
• Develop and lead a lean, AI-leveraged design team, defining operational processes for design.
• Direct design work, conduct quality control, and elevate the standard of shipped products.
• Raise the standard of the design team through direct feedback and high expectations.
• Partner with Product and Engineering leadership to influence product development decisions.
• Utilize research, analytics, experimentation, and customer feedback to inform design decisions and demonstrate impact.
