Head of Design

SageOx•Seattle, WA
•Onsite

About The Position

SageOx is hiring a senior design leader to shape the product experience and design practice for a company building shared memory and tools for software and product teams working with AI coding agents. The role will define the visual and interaction vocabulary for a new category, make SageOx’s products intuitive and compelling, and build the systems that help people and agents deliver high-quality design independently. The Head of Design will work across Ox Console, Ox Desktop and Mobile apps, team onboarding, the design system, agent experience, the Ox Dot and its physical experience, brand, and marketing materials. The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on execution: shipping designs and code to production, prototyping, running experiments, learning from customers, and building self-serve tooling and guidance. The design leader will partner closely with the founders, influence product direction and adoption, and over time build and manage the Design team. SageOx expects this leader to be comfortable with rapid change in AI and design, use AI tools and SageOx hands-on every day, and enable engineers, marketers, founders, and agents to make good design decisions without relying on a designer for every feature. The position is in person, with San Francisco preferred and Seattle as a second choice.

Requirements

  • Strong alignment with the mission of helping humans and agents become high-performing teams.
  • Daily, hands-on fluency designing and building with AI agents.
  • Strong, opinionated design taste and the courage to challenge founders when ambition is too low.
  • An industry reputation as a designer other designers look up to, with exceptional depth in at least one design area and range across others.
  • A builder and collaborator who ships to production and works side by side with engineers, founders, and agents.
  • Deep connections to the local startup ecosystem and emerging design practices in AI-focused teams.
  • A track record leading design at a high-bar product team, including building systems around design and not only screens.
  • Demonstrable work showing how design changed what a product became.
  • Curiosity, courage in experimentation, and humility in success.
  • Willingness to work in person.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience spanning both digital and physical products, or curiosity and ability to learn physical product design quickly.
  • Ability to bring industry-defining depth in UX and UI, brand, or physical product design.

Responsibilities

  • Define and deliver an intuitive, effective, high-quality product experience across SageOx products.
  • Shape Ox Console, Ox Desktop and Mobile apps, and onboarding for multi-person teams.
  • Build and maintain design-system components, tokens, rules, guidance, and tooling for both people and coding agents.
  • Define and improve the experience of agents discovering and using SageOx.
  • Shape the physical experience of SageOx, including the Ox Dot, packaging, unboxing, onboarding, gadgets, and meeting-room experience.
  • Develop SageOx’s visual brand language and brand system for features and products.
  • Create or guide marketing materials, including website, social media visuals, and event marketing.
  • Work closely with the founders to translate their vision into a strong visual experience, contribute ideas, and raise ambition.
  • Learn from design-partner sessions, customer data, and observation of teams using SageOx with agents; identify points of confusion, distrust, and delight.
  • Stay current with developments in AI and design and advocate for SageOx in the startup ecosystem and design industry.
  • Tell the story of design at SageOx through writing, talks, and the work itself, and help attract designers.
  • Ship designs and code to production starting in the first week, collaborating with engineers, founders, teammates, and agents.
  • Build self-serve design tooling, such as agent skills, so teammates can make design decisions without waiting for a designer.
  • Champion designers who use SageOx and inform product features and scenarios through design expertise and recommendations.
  • Run small design experiments against real usage, make explicit keep-or-kill decisions, and prototype interaction patterns for human-agent teams.
  • Use AI tools hands-on every day and use SageOx in personal design work.
  • Over time, build and manage the Design team.
