Head of Data Science, Strategic Finance
About The Position
The Head of Data Science, Strategic Finance will partner with the Strategic Finance team and the Product and GTM Data Science organizations to execute core business priorities. Reporting to the VP of Strategic Finance, this managerial role works closely with finance leadership to support data-driven decision-making, improve data fluency, and influence financial outcomes. The role is based in San Francisco, California, with a hybrid schedule of three days in the office per week. Relocation assistance is offered to new employees. The Strategic Finance Data Science function focuses on forecasting key business and financial metrics; tracking attainment of key targets; providing complex modeling and analysis for business decisions; and scaling recurring work through automation and dashboards.
Requirements
- 12 or more years of experience in a Data Science role at a dynamic, outcome-driven organization.
- Proficiency in critical analytical tools, including SQL.
- Extensive experience building production-ready models for time-series applications.
- Experience building adjustable and explainable forecast models for multiple planning cycles.
- Ability to conduct open-ended research projects on new forecasting methodologies.
- Ability to distill complex financial information into actionable insights for leadership.
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills when presenting data insights.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment, remain flexible, and contribute as needed.
- Prior management experience.

Responsibilities
- Develop accurate forecasts for product usage and revenue, compute consumption, and their underlying drivers, enabling real-time tracking of key metric performance and trajectory.
- Become an expert in OpenAI’s data and systems through partnership with Data Engineering, Finance, and other Data Science teams.
- Design and deliver dashboards for key metrics that affect financial performance.
- Lead metrics reviews with Strategic Finance and finance leadership, interpreting dashboard trends and surfacing actionable insights.
- Automate standardized reporting, analysis, and processes across revenue segments and compute spend.
- Build and mentor a high-performing team.
- Support critical business decisions with ad hoc analysis.
