About The Position

YipitData is seeking a Head of Data, Private Investor to define the future of their business unit by establishing their private-company insights as the most trusted in the market. This role involves owning data methodology, quality, and accuracy, leading the work that gives investors confidence in private AI & Software company performance. The Private Investor product team is a small but scaling organization building a product at a rapid pace. The Head of Data will be a leader capable of transforming a nascent data product into a market-leading source of truth. This includes hands-on work in the early days with a small team, redefining existing business logic, building on benchmarking data for accuracy, and eventually hiring, mentoring, and managing a high-caliber team of data analysts. The ideal candidate is senior enough to set strategy and build an organization but also enjoys deep data work and leading from the front. This is a remote-friendly opportunity within the US, with expected East Coast work hours.

Requirements

8+ years in data-intensive roles, with a track record owning data quality and methodology for a data product, ideally used by investors or analytical customers.
Experience building and scaling a data function, growing a team from early stage to meaningful scale.
Deep technical fluency and hands-on instincts, including SQL proficiency, data anomaly investigation, and pipeline architecture design/critique.
Experience applying AI/LLMs to messy data problems (tagging, classification, entity resolution, enrichment) with a practical understanding of evaluation, improvement, and governance.
A naturally skeptical mentality towards data quality, knowing where standards must be uncompromising, balanced with a bias for customer delivery and making judgment calls on 'good enough'.
Strong prioritization instincts and judgment for making tradeoff decisions across accuracy, cost, speed, and customer impact.
Clear communication skills, able to describe root issues of data challenges and explain next steps and rationale.
Comfort with customers, with bonus experience working with investor clients, and ability to handle sophisticated client conversations on methodology and data trust.

Responsibilities

Own trust of our AI & Software data end-to-end, determining where data quality (breadth, depth, accuracy, speed) is sufficient and improving it.
Set data strategy and prioritization, determining which internal and external data sources and enrichment streams to invest in.
Optimize accuracy/coverage/cost/complexity tradeoffs for investing in datasets and business logic for blending sources.
Design and maintain a world-class QA system, building truth data benchmark sets and a QA framework.
Scale the data function from 1 to 10, starting as a player-coach and building a team and culture for data excellence.
Contribute to cutting-edge uses of AI in data, partnering with AI and Data Engineering teams for scaled entity resolution.
Lead pipeline business logic design, authoring refactor specs, defining panelization and outlier handling, and reducing data lag.
Serve as the data authority for private investor customers, leading accuracy escalations, supporting customer diligence, and translating methodologies into digestible communications.
