About The Position

The Corporate Accounting team is a key part of the Finance team at MUFG Securities Americas Inc. and is responsible for the maintaining MUSA's general ledger by ensuring that day-to-day accounting is performed, subledger feeds are processed and the ledger is in accordance with U.S. GAAP as well as ensuring all Head Office and external Financial Reporting is timely and accurate. The role holder will have accountability for the direct management of the Corporate Accounting team including oversight of month end close processing, post close reporting, financial reporting, posting journal entries to Oracle general ledger as well as performing additional accounting procedures such as accounting policy analysis, automation of processes and ad-hoc project work.

Requirements

  • BS/BA or MS/MBA in Accounting required.
  • FINRA Series 99 Strongly preferred – can be obtained after joining MUSA.
  • CPA Required
  • 7-10 years of progressive accounting financial reporting experience in large, complex banking or financial institutions.
  • Big 4 Public / Securities industry experience preferable.
  • Demonstrable leadership experience.

  • Strong systems and product knowledge, securities industry knowledge a plus.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and data analytics platforms.
  • Experience with Oracle and Broadridge systems preferable.

Responsibilities

  • Accountability for management of Financial Accounting, Control and Reporting under JGAAP, USGAAP and IFRS for MUSA.
  • Responsibility for G/L processing (e.g. operating expenses / transfer pricing / daily journal entries)
  • Delivery of accurate, timely and insightful quarterly reports (e.g. Home Office consolidation package, SOX testing
  • Assess related risks and drive the enhancement and effective operation of key controls across departmental processes
  • Manage Month End closing process (e.g. Prepayments, Accruals, Fixed Assets, etc)
  • Monitor and maintain revenue/expense sharing agreements and associated journal entries.
  • Review reconciliations in Oracle ARCS tool and assist in expanding functionality.
  • Spearhead Finance improvement projects and assist with implementation.
  • Monitor intercompany balancing, reconciliation and invoicing.
  • Provision of Accounting Policy and Guidance under USGAAP and IFRS including liaison with Tokyo FAO where required.
  • Lead in business analysis, user acceptance testing and implementation of strategic system implementations and other firm-wide projects relating to financial reporting
  • Talent management to include recruitment, retention and development of staff to ensure individual and team performance in line with stakeholder expectations.
  • Maintaining and enhancing good working relationships with stakeholders, including business and control / infrastructure teams, auditors, regulators, local management and staff of the Finance function globally.
  • Leading projects and system enhancements as required, ensuring effective control and continuous process improvement.
  • Identification, escalation and resolution of issues regarding the department and related activities.
  • Ensure adherence to Policies and Procedures and that said documents are updated in accordance with review schedules and remain relevant in the context of business/market events.
  • Ensure adherence to relevant regulatory requirements and accounting standards.
  • Documentation of control activities and methodologies undertaken in respect of the above responsibilities to a standard sufficient to ensure hand over of tasks and auditability of results and including the management of operational risks.
  • Conducting analysis in support of the Finance function, whether through additional ad hoc tasks or presentation of written materials.
