Head of Architecture and Design
About The Position
Hut 8 is seeking a Head of Architecture and Design to redefine the form, function, and civic role of its data centers and other facilities. This senior design role will own the architecture and design of all company-built assets, including data centers, offices, and future asset types. The primary focus is to create a coherent architectural language for data centers that presents them as civic architecture rather than an industrial backdrop, integrated into a campus that serves the public realm. The role involves significant authority and operates within real constraints, directing leading architecture and design firms from the earliest project stages, and collaborating with engineering and development teams as a peer. The ultimate goal is to produce lasting architecture and genuinely civic sites within project limitations.
Requirements
- Registered architect operating at the level of Design Director, Design Principal, or senior design lead on flagship projects at a top practice.
- Proven track record of creating and defending distinct architectural identities, rather than project execution alone.
- Command of building form, refined interior environments, and the masterplanning of campuses and landscape.
- Ability to direct, evaluate, and challenge elite firms as a peer.
- Ability to design within the power, cooling, security, and logistical demands of mission-critical infrastructure.
- Experience leading large-format, capital-intensive projects taken from concept to completion, on schedule and on budget.
- Prior exposure to hyperscale, industrial, or complex infrastructure projects is a significant plus.
Responsibilities
- Define the architectural language of our infrastructure, a coherent identity spanning building form, exterior expression, and interior environments.
- Define our campus model, including the public, landscape, and amenity program of each site.
- Direct top third-party architecture and design firms to develop and realize that vision, holding them to the standard you set.
- Lead internal and external project teams to deliver large-format projects on schedule and on budget.
