About The Position

Lumafield is seeking a Head of Application Engineering to lead, mentor, and scale their Application Engineering (AppE) and Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) team. These customer-facing engineers are experts in Lumafield's products, responsible for advising customers, developing custom technical solutions, and mastering the company's hardware and software ecosystem. The role involves establishing standard, scalable ways of working, balancing complex technical challenges with team management in a fast-paced environment. The Head of Application Engineering will collaborate with Product Management and Customer Success to scope, manage, and deliver solutions that transform manufacturing processes.

Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Automation, or a related field.
8+ years of professional experience, including at least 3 years of direct people management in a technical environment.
Proven background in solutions or application engineering within customer-facing roles.
Deep understanding of manufacturing operations, quality control, or industrial automation.
Excellent communication and analytical skills, with a consultative approach to building internal and external relationships.

Responsibilities

Manage a team and lead recruiting, hiring, and onboarding as the team grows.
Define technical focus areas and individual development plans.
Become an internal subject matter expert in Lumafield's hardware and Voyager software to guide the development and delivery of technical solutions.
Establish and continuously improve technical ways of working.
Codify best practices to ensure that technical knowledge is shared and scalable across the organization.
Work closely with Product, Customer Success, Sales, and Engineering to channel customer insights into the product roadmap, and refine the delivery strategy.
Cultivate an environment of rigorous engineering standards and rapid problem-solving.
Define and report on team-level KPIs to measure impact and delivery success.
