Head of Accounting

VizcomSan Francisco, CA
$210,000 - $250,000Hybrid

About The Position

This is a rare build-from-scratch opportunity to own accounting at a fast-growing, AI-native company and shape it from the ground up. As the first dedicated accounting hire, you will design the systems, policies, and modern tech stack for financial data. The role starts as Head of Accounting, with a clear path to grow into a full VP, Accounting/Controller as the function and team scale. Within the first few months, you will own the numbers and transform enterprise billing and revenue recognition processes into an automated, best-in-class system. Within the first year, you will bring the close in-house, choose and implement a modern ERP, and lead the company through its first external audit. This role involves rolling up your sleeves and building alongside a company of builders and designers, then growing the team as the work demands. You will report to the VP, Finance & Operations, and are preferably based in the San Francisco Bay Area, working in a hybrid environment with regular time in the S.F. office. This role is ideal for someone who has seen companies scale through $100M+ in revenue, is in the #2 seat and ready to step up, and is ready to own the function and build it with AI in mind.

Requirements

  • 8-12 years of progressive accounting experience, with meaningful time at a venture-backed SaaS/AI company.
  • Experience building or substantially leveling up an accounting function before, transitioning from outsourced or messy to structured through $100M+ in revenue.
  • Deep US GAAP expertise, with real ASC 606 revenue recognition experience for SaaS and enterprise contracts.
  • Hands-on ownership of the close, financial statement preparation, and reconciliations.
  • Experience leading or being core to an ERP implementation or migration, with opinions about ERP and financial data architecture.
  • Experience integrating AI meaningfully into work and building new workflows AI-first.
  • Experience hiring, mentoring, or managing a team and readiness to build and lead a team as the function grows.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a bias toward action.
  • Experience succeeding in environments where there wasn't already a playbook.
  • Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and comfortable working in a hybrid environment with regular time in the office.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA (active or inactive) and/or a Big 4 or national-firm foundation (2-4 years).
  • Hands-on experience with the modern accounting stack (Campfire, Rillet, Ramp, Tabs, etc) or a fast, curious adopter.
  • Experience scaling a company from Series B through $100M+ ARR.
  • Experience with usage-based or consumption billing models.
  • Exposure to multi-entity or international accounting, fundraising support, tax compliance, internal audit/IT controls, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Own enterprise billing and revenue recognition end-to-end, transforming quote-to-cash and ASC 606 revenue recognition into a clean, best-in-class motion.
  • Own and accelerate the close by streamlining monthly and quarterly close with the outsourced firm, then bringing core functions (GL, reconciliations, AR/AP, close) in-house.
  • Evaluate, choose, and implement a modern ERP system within the first 6-9 months, building the function AI-native from the start.
  • Stand up GAAP policies and a right-sized controls framework, clean historical financials, and select and manage the auditor through the company's first external audit.
  • Define and hire the first accounting roles (GL Accountants, Revenue Accountants, and beyond) and develop the team (including AI Agents) as volume grows.
  • Partner with the VP, Finance & Operations on reporting, board, and investor support.
  • Partner with GTM, Product, and Data on systems connecting accounting to the company.
  • Partner with external tax, compliance, and outsourced partners.
