About The Position

The Head Coach is responsible for the overall management and direction of the MS Wrestling program. This includes enforcing athletic policies, managing equipment and uniforms, ensuring player safety and adherence to rules, promoting good sportsmanship, and maintaining open communication with players, parents, staff, and the Athletic Director. The Head Coach also plays a key role in program development, media communication, and administrative tasks related to the sport.

Requirements

  • Participation at high school or college level in sport
  • Training in coaching techniques (A.S.E.P. Certification)
  • Experience working with youth-centered programs
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce the Athletic Policies of AHMS in your sport with the direct supervision of the Athletic Director.
  • Be responsible for all equipment and uniforms, issue, collect, and maintain an inventory.
  • Be present at all practices and games, with exceptions requiring clearance from the Athletic Director.
  • Be responsible for knowing and teaching players all rules governing their sport.
  • Be familiar with policies and ensure team members adhere to them.
  • Conduct yourself in a manner that represents AHHS positively and demand the same from coaches and players.
  • Always display and demand good sportsmanship (Staff, Fans & Players).
  • Treat players, parents, fans, officials, and fellow coaches with respect.
  • Inform the Athletic Director of any discipline problems and injuries.
  • Fill out accident forms for all injuries.
  • Keep communications open between yourself, your team, coaching staff, and the A.D.
  • Be consistent in enforcing team rules.
  • Be on time for all trips and remain at school until all players have left after away games.
  • Be familiar with and enforce all bus rules.
  • Inform the Athletic Director in advance of any change of plans, practice schedules, bus departures, or team rules.
  • Maintain communication with assistant coaches and middle school coaching staff regarding the overall direction of the program.
  • Promote your sport and all sports at AHHS.
  • Call in all scores to the local media and use daily announcements.
  • Review all IHSA rules meetings.
  • Attend seeding meetings for tournaments and get all paperwork entered.
  • Promptly fill out any forms provided by AHHS, IHSA, or the Conference pertaining to your sport.
  • Attend all pre-season and post-season meetings required by the conference.
  • Present and collect all student-parent agreements.
  • Ensure all players have a contest and practice schedule and make them aware of any changes.
  • Turn in all completed inventory at the end of the season after all equipment has been collected.
  • Turn in a requisition for equipment needed for the next season.
  • Turn in the names of all letter winners and special awards to the Athletic Director immediately at the end of the season.
  • Attend the award program, introduce assistant coaches, and present awards.
  • Communicate with the Athletic Director in regards to the following year's schedule.
  • Always have a medical kit and ice available at all practices and games.
  • Have a phone with when outside in case of an emergency.
  • Ensure locker rooms are left neat at all home and away practices and games.
  • Develop and distribute a copy of rules and policies pertaining to your sport at the pre-season meeting, after clearing with the Athletic Director.
  • Keep attendance, records, and statistics for all team members.
  • Make every effort to use all legal contact days during the off-season to prepare your team for the upcoming season.
  • Support and try to attend as many AHHS Booster Club meetings as possible.
  • Head Coaches can request to have a fundraiser for their Activity Account, following District 19 fundraising policy.
  • Purchase supplies or request funds through their respective activity accounts with permission from the Athletic Director.
