About The Position

The Head Middle School Volleyball Coach is responsible for instructing participants in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success. This role also focuses on instilling moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, self-confidence, and sportsmanship in student-athletes. The coach is expected to implement quality principles to improve program effectiveness and adhere to the UCSD Actions of Excellence.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Sports and Rules.
  • Demonstrate proper care of injuries and injury prevention.
  • Demonstrate and convey knowledge of sport.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and abide with the rules and regulations governing the sport.
  • Demonstrate consistency with the philosophy and ethics.
  • Appropriate BOEE licensure.
  • Repetitious bending, lifting, and hand movement.
  • Ability to work while standing, moving and/or walking.
  • Drug, tobacco, and alcohol-free while working.
  • Must be able to see and hear within normal limits with or without corrective lenses or hearing aids.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle used to travel between sites.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct participants in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training for volleyball.
  • Instill moral values, pride of accomplishment, social behavior, self-discipline, self-confidence, and sportsmanship.
  • Implement quality principles and tools to improve program effectiveness.
  • Promote sportsmanship at events and practices.
  • Prepare and implement practice plans and set yearly goals for the team and program.
  • Display good team preparation in mechanics, emotional readiness, and skill development.
  • Show concern for the safety and well-being of athletes.
  • Command respect and set a positive example.
  • Respect others and remain ethical in dealings.
  • Share knowledge and cooperate with other coaches.
  • Display respect for other sports and programs.
  • Remain positive, encouraging, and supportive in criticism of players.
  • Establish and maintain consistent discipline according to administrative policy.
  • Demonstrate concern for athletes' academic program and conduct.
  • Show respect for athletes as individuals.
  • Inform student-athletes of potential hazards and risks associated with the sport and equipment.
  • Appropriately acknowledge student achievement.
  • Cooperate in developing eligibility lists, equipment needs, and program information.
  • Require all athletes to complete necessary pre-participation requirements.
  • Be punctual and responsible with inventory and other duties.
  • Display accuracy and care in record keeping.
  • Follow Athletic Department policy in all areas, including record keeping, reporting inventory, transportation, purchasing, fundraising, and program management.
  • Manage the entire program, not just the varsity level.
  • Provide supervision and administration of team members during contests, events, practices, bus rides, and in locker rooms.
  • Cooperate with various staffs and administrations.
  • Participate in in-service and professional athletic meetings.
  • Accept recommendations and suggestions from supervisors.
  • Implement an effective public relations program regarding news media, colleges, universities, parents, and students.
