About The Position

Earlham College is seeking a Head Men’s & Women’s Tennis Coach responsible for the conduct and overall supervision of both tennis programs. The primary responsibilities include recruiting, developing, and retaining student-athletes, and coaching two highly competitive NCAA Division III tennis programs in compliance with all relevant rules and regulations. The coach will also be responsible for office duties, student-athlete development, and representing the college positively.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • A successful record of recruiting, developing, and retaining student-athletes is essential.
  • Demonstrate exceptional leadership.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to, and understanding and appreciation of, NCAA Division III athletics and wellness in a private liberal arts college.
  • Current and valid driver’s license required.
  • Demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Duties must be performed in compliance with all NCAA, Conference, and College rules and regulations.
  • Report any rules violations or knowledge of violations within the department to the appropriate parties.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Previous collegiate coaching experience (3-5 years) is preferred.
  • Collegiate playing experience is desired.
  • Experience working on a campus with a diverse student body is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, develop, and retain student-athletes to meet or exceed annual recruitment goals and maintain optimal roster size.
  • Develop and implement annual recruitment strategies, generate recruiting reports, and build relationships with prospective student-athletes and their families.
  • Plan and coordinate prospective student-athlete visits and off-campus contacts.
  • Attend tournaments, showcases, team camps, and high school events to observe recruits.
  • Establish and maintain a recruiting database using athletic department software and communicate regularly with prospective student-athletes and their families.
  • Utilize social media platforms for recruitment efforts in compliance with NCAA DIII rules.
  • Support, monitor, and track the academic success and personal growth of each student-athlete for retention and completion.
  • Orient student-athletes to the policies and regulations of the College, HCAC, and NCAA.
  • Oversee the conduct and discipline of student-athletes.
  • Prepare team competition and practice schedules in accordance with athletic department guidelines and regulations.
  • Prepare and operate a fiscally sound program with an annual balanced budget.
  • Inventory, purchase, and maintain equipment and uniforms.
  • Hire, train, and supervise a part-time graduate assistant coach.
  • Work with the Athletic Communications office to promote the programs and Earlham College.
  • Utilize social media platforms to promote and generate interest in the tennis program, athletic department, and Earlham College.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Coordinate bus and van schedules, pre and post-game meals, lodging, and overnight accommodations.
  • Be a presence in the office and available to assist with student-athlete needs.
  • Serve as a mentor to the student-athletes.
  • Develop competitive programs consistent with the athletic department vision.
  • Effectively teach individual skills, team concepts, and competitive values.
  • Prepare and execute practice and match plans.
  • Break down drills, providing individual student-athlete attention and training.
  • Assist in overseeing weight training and individual workouts in season.
  • Assist in designing off-season workouts for student-athlete improvement.
  • Perform post-meet duties, including arranging team meals, securing statistics, and contacting the Athletic Communications office.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to fostering an inclusive and courageous team environment.
  • Create and/or seek opportunities for the program and individual student-athletes that will enhance their experience, improve their person, and advance their career.
  • Demonstrate leadership, sportsmanship, and mature conduct.
  • Positively represent Earlham to all on and off-campus constituency groups, as well as in conference, regional, and national coaching associations.
  • Develop an annual fundraising and alumni outreach plan in collaboration with the Director of Athletics and Institutional Advancement.
  • Be an active member of the athletic department and administrative faculty, attending staff meetings, supporting other athletic programs, and being responsive to departmental and institutional needs.
  • Assist the athletic department as needed, including game management duties and supervision.
  • Attain van certification to assist with van transportation of student-athletes.
  • Understand and support the basic mission of the College.
  • Teach courses (4 half-semester courses per year) in the Athletics, Wellness, and Physical Education (AWPE) curriculum.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
