About The Position

The YMCA of Northeastern Ontario is seeking a Part-Time Head Lifeguard/Instructor for its Durham location in Sudbury. This role is under the leadership of the Supervisor, Aquatics. The Head Lifeguard/Instructor is responsible for providing on-deck leadership and support to aquatic staff, ensuring safe and effective daily operations on the pool deck, and upholding YMCA policies, procedures, and standards to deliver high-quality aquatic experiences and ensure participant satisfaction. This is an internal-only position for an existing vacancy.

Requirements

  • National Lifeguard certification (NL in good standing)
  • YMCA Swim Instructor Certification
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a leadership role
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR C
  • Current and satisfactory Police Record with Vulnerable Sector Check

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) preferred
  • Lifesaving Society Instructor and/or examiner considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety of patrons at all times
  • Provide leadership on the pool deck during the aquatic program schedule including regular tasks like water tests, slide operation and swim level assessments
  • Respond to inquiries regarding programs promptly
  • Be a positive role model for all program participants
  • Lead emergency/incident response on the pool deck as required
  • Coordinate swim lesson attendance lists and staffing
  • Communication with program participant guardians
  • Provide recommendations regarding policy, procedures and process development within the department
  • Complete incident reports for submission to the supervisor
  • Complete pool logs
  • Accept and approve swim lesson progress reports
  • Coordinate staff to complete daily cleaning tasks
  • Maintain a clean and welcoming environment
  • Incorporate Y Way Standards into daily responsibilities
  • Build relationships with members and guests, and promote the YMCA as a charitable organization
