About The Position

This is skilled water safety work, involving the prevention of accidents and injuries, and responding with effective care and treatment to emergency situations at aquatic pool areas. Provides supervision of lifeguards and facility when supervisor is off site. Reports to the Facilities Supervisors and/or Aquatic Manager.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED supplemented by a minimum of (2) two years of experience as a Red Cross certified lifeguard.
  • American Red Cross lifeguard certification
  • American Red Cross first aid certification
  • American Red Cross CPR, AED, & O2
  • Knowledge of water rescue methods, CPR, and first aid techniques.
  • Knowledge of park rules and regulations concerning public safety.
  • Ability to supervise.
  • Ability to handle frightened or injured persons in the water.
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to enforce rules and regulations firmly but tactfully.
  • Ability to remain alert over long periods of time.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, employees, and the general public.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer.

Nice To Haves

  • At least (1) one year of head lifeguard or supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and American Red Cross lifeguard instructor certifications are preferred.
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all duties as a lifeguard
  • Responsible for the safety of the facility patrons
  • Responsible for the supervision of the lifeguard staff
  • Enforces all rules, policies, and regulations
  • Responds to patron inquiries and concerns
  • Inspects the facility, on a daily basis, and reports any unsafe conditions or equipment to the Facility Supervisor immediately
  • Maintains records and reports, including incident reports
  • Helps to plan and provide in-service training for lifeguard staff
  • Maintains records and documents of water quality and chemical balance, and adds chemicals to water as necessary
  • Assists with and supervises special events, swim meets, and other events
  • Carries out additional duties as assigned by the Facility Supervisor and/or Aquatic Manager
  • Performs other duties as assigned
