About The Position

The Head Girls Wrestling Coach is responsible for building, leading, and sustaining a competitive and inclusive girls wrestling program. This role focuses on developing student-athletes’ wrestling skills, confidence, leadership, and character while promoting academic success, sportsmanship, and a safe training environment. The coach will help grow participation in girls wrestling and foster a culture of empowerment and excellence. They will work closely with the Boys Head Wrestling.

Requirements

  • Previous coaching experience at the high school, club, or collegiate level (head coaching experience preferred).
  • Knowledge of current wrestling techniques, training methods, and rules.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire female student-athletes in a growing sport.
  • Commitment to equity and expanding opportunities for girls in athletics.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications (or willingness to obtain prior to season start).
  • Background check and IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • NFHS Coach Level 1: (obtain prior to starting)
  • NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching
  • NFHS Concussion in Sports
  • NFHS Protecting Students from Abuse
  • NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest

Responsibilities

  • Establish, develop, and oversee all aspects of the girls wrestling program.
  • Actively recruit and retain student-athletes to grow participation in girls wrestling.
  • Build a positive, inclusive team culture that promotes respect, accountability, and resilience.
  • Develop both in-season and off-season training programs.
  • Plan and conduct effective, well-structured practices focused on technique, conditioning, and match strategy.
  • Teach proper wrestling fundamentals, rules, and safety practices.
  • Prepare athletes for duals, tournaments, and postseason competition.
  • Encourage sportsmanship, integrity, and respect for opponents, officials, and teammates.
  • Promote academic achievement and monitor eligibility of all team members.
  • Organize and supervise all competitions, including lineup decisions, travel logistics, and match preparation.
  • Ensure compliance with all district and state athletic association rules and regulations.
  • Represent the school and program with professionalism at all events.
  • Coordinate with the boys wrestling program when appropriate for shared resources and facility use.
  • Maintain a safe training environment, including proper supervision, mat safety, and weight management practices.
  • Adhere to all policies regarding hydration, nutrition, and healthy weight control.
