About The Position

Coaches in the Port Angeles School District play a critical role in supporting the growth, safety, and well-being of student-athletes. Port Angeles High School is seeking a Head Girls Golf Coach for the spring season. The Head Coach will oversee all aspects of the girls golf program, including skill development, course management, match preparation, and program administration across Varsity and Junior Varsity levels. The Head Coach will work closely with the Boys Head Golf Coach to coordinate practice times, facility usage, travel arrangements, and overall program logistics. The regular spring golf season runs from March 1st through May 19th. During this season, coaches must be available for weekday practices and matches, with potential Saturday tournament responsibilities. In addition to the spring competitive season, the successful candidate must be available to support off-season golf programming and summer player development, as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Previous playing or coaching experience in golf preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of golf fundamentals, rules, course strategy, and golf etiquette.
  • Ability to plan and execute effective practice sessions, swing mechanics instruction, and course management strategies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with the Boys Head Golf Coach, school athletic department, local golf course personnel, student-athletes, and parents.
  • Availability to commit to weekday practice/match schedules and occasional Saturday events during the season (March 1 � May 19).
  • Willingness and ability to drive school district vans to transport student-athletes to away matches and practice facilities.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record to meet district driver clearance requirements.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and administrative skills.
  • Must meet or be willing to obtain all WIAA coaching certification requirements.
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification, or ability to obtain prior to the start of the season.
  • Must be willing to complete all district-required safety and compliance training.
  • Ability to maintain student confidentiality and adhere strictly to district and school policies.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of the girls golf program, including skill development, course management, match preparation, and program administration across Varsity and Junior Varsity levels.
  • Work closely with the Boys Head Golf Coach to coordinate practice times, facility usage, travel arrangements, and overall program logistics.
  • Be available for weekday practices and matches, with potential Saturday tournament responsibilities during the spring season (March 1st - May 19th).
  • Support off-season golf programming and summer player development.
  • Inform athletes and parents of inherent risks associated with athletic participation.
  • Ensure drills, practice plans, and conditioning match the skill level and physical readiness of the athletes.
  • Inspect practice facilities, driving ranges, and course conditions for safety hazards prior to competition and practice.
  • Ensure team equipment and training aids are safely maintained and properly stored.
  • Provide safe, current, and effective instruction on swing technique, rules, and course strategy to prevent injury and promote athlete development.
  • Maintain adequate supervision of student-athletes on the course, at practice facilities, and during team travel.
  • Maintain athletic decorum, golf etiquette, and appropriate sportsmanship in alignment with school policy.
  • Drive district vans to transport team members safely to and from practice courses and away competitions in compliance with district transportation policies.
  • Monitor environmental conditions (heat, cold, rain, lightning) and ensure proper hydration and athlete safety on the course.
  • Respond promptly to injuries with basic first aid and execute emergency action plans when necessary.
  • Timely log match results, injury reports, facility issues, and administrative documentation as required.
