About The Position

The Head Girls Basketball Coach at Hedgesville High School is responsible for the administration and development of the girls' basketball program. This role involves supervising players and assistant coaches, managing equipment and budgets, and ensuring adherence to all West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission (WVSSAC) rules. The coach will also focus on player development, including academic progress and strength and conditioning, while fostering positive relationships within the school and community.

Requirements

  • Possess or be eligible for West Virginia Teacher Certification; or, possess or have the ability to obtain the WV Coaching Authorization, prior to the start of the season (High School Diploma or GED required).
  • Successful completion of a three-day ASEP / WVSSAC certification training class, with three online exams.
  • Completion of four NFHS / WVSSAC online courses with online exams.
  • Completion of required Safeschools trainings.
  • Appropriate grade level athletic coaching experience within the last five years required.
  • Ability to perform the job duties and responsibilities of the position as contained in the Job Description, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Prior approval and recommendation of administrators.

Responsibilities

  • Administration of the designated sports program
  • Development of team philosophies & responsibilities
  • Supervision of players and assistant coaches
  • Inventory of all equipment
  • Work with athletic director/principal on program budget
  • Maintenance of fields and facilities
  • Prepare practice/game plans
  • Develop and supervise an off-season strength and conditioning program
  • Develop a program to follow player academic progress
  • Care of injuries
  • Develop positive relationships with players, parents, students, coaches, band, faculty, officials, media, and the community
  • Be knowledgeable of all WVSSAC rules and strictly adhere to the same
  • Attend required WVSSAC clinics
  • Assist in organizing supplemental funding activities to support the program
  • Assist in the supervision and evaluation of assistant coaches at all levels of the program
  • Develop staff development opportunities for any assistant coaches
  • Participate in the school’s Sportsmanship Program and Scholar/Athlete Program
  • Perform additional, reasonable, job-related responsibilities as assigned by the athletic director and/or building principal
