About The Position

This is a basketball coaching position for the girls' team at Broad Run High School. The season runs from November to February. The role involves assisting in maintaining academic standards for student athletes, supporting the athletic director and principal, and fostering a positive athletic environment.

Requirements

Coaching experience or participation in the sport at the high school or college level.
Completion of CPR and First Aid training or enrollment in a current CPR and First Aid training course.

Nice To Haves

Experience as a teacher or classified employee in Loudoun County Public Schools.
Virginia Teaching License candidate or a full-time classified employee for Loudoun County Public Schools.

Responsibilities

Maintain high academic standards for all student athletes.
Assist the athletic director and principal in the hiring and/or retention of assistant coaches.
Direct, supervise, and evaluate the performance of all assistant coaches.
Work cooperatively with the athletic director to assure proper insurance coverage for all athletes.
Foster an appreciation for the values of athletics, a desire to win, good sportsmanship, and pride in self, team, school, and community.
Direct the training, conditioning, and performance of the varsity athletic team.
Lead, supervise, and assist assistant coaches with their teams.
Act as a positive influence on the behavior of the athletic staff and teams.
Be present and personally direct the team at all varsity contests and as many junior varsity and freshmen contests as possible.
Supervise athletes at invitational meets or postseason competition.
Advise the athletic director on the preparation of schedules for the sport.
Advise the athletic director in the selection and performance evaluations of officials.
Recommend the type and amount of equipment and supplies needed.
Provide for the inventory and care of equipment.
Advise the athletic director of the condition of athletic facilities and needs for their preparation and maintenance.
Ensure that lists of all players eligible for athletic contests are prepared and maintained under VHSL rules.
Recommend the removal of athletes from the team(s) when training or eligibility regulations are not met.
Ensure all athletes have undergone and passed medical examinations before the regular practice season begins.
Organize a system for encouraging students to try out for the team and develop/recruit support staff (equipment manager, score keepers, statisticians, ball runners, etc.).
Collect and keep on file records, statistics, news items, and photographs for the athletic teams.
Recommend students who qualify for a varsity letter or junior varsity/freshman certificate.
Recommend prospective coaches to the athletic director.
Observe sub-varsity practices and games.
Perform other duties related to the position as requested by the high school principal and/or athletic director.
