About The Position

The Head Debate Coach at West High is responsible for leading the debate team and ensuring that all members are well-trained and prepared for competitions. This position requires strong communication and leadership skills, as well as a deep understanding of debate techniques and strategies.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of debate techniques and strategies, and experience coaching debate teams
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire students
• Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously
• Ability to work collaboratively with other coaches and teachers to support students' academic success
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends for competitions and events
• Ability to pass a background check and meet all state and local requirements for working with students.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as communications, political science, or education

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive debate program for students at West High
• Organize and lead regular debate practices and training sessions
• Select and prepare students for debate competitions, including researching and choosing appropriate topics and formats
• Provide constructive feedback to students to help them improve their debate skills
• Manage the debate team's budget and resources, including fundraising and equipment purchases
• Collaborate with other coaches and teachers to support students' academic success
• Maintain accurate records of student participation and progress, and communicate regularly with parents and school administrators
