About The Position

This position is responsible for performing a variety of tasks in the cleaning, maintenance, and general upkeep of a school building and grounds. The Head Custodian I will oversee and participate in the cleaning of classrooms, offices, restrooms, and other areas, as well as perform minor repairs and ensure the safety and security of the facility. This role involves supervising custodial staff, managing supplies, and adhering to established cleaning and safety protocols.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of custodial or janitorial experience.
  • Experience in performing minor maintenance and repairs.
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Must be able to complete a three (3) year work history including periods of unemployment, schooling, and volunteer work on the application.

  • Previous supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing floors, surfaces, and furniture.
  • Clean and disinfect restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and floors.
  • Empty trash receptacles and remove waste from the building.
  • Wash windows, walls, and ceilings.
  • Perform minor maintenance and repair tasks, such as changing light bulbs, unclogging drains, and making basic repairs to furniture and fixtures.
  • Ensure the school grounds are clean and free of debris.
  • Operate and maintain cleaning equipment and tools.
  • Follow established safety procedures and guidelines for the use of chemicals and equipment.
  • Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Oversee and direct the work of other custodial staff.
  • Manage inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, and place orders as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all district policies and procedures related to custodial services.
