About The Position

Illinois Mathematics & Science Academy (IMSA) is seeking an individual to fill the role of "Head Coach" for the high school Boys and Girls Cross Country Team for the upcoming Fall 2026 season (August 10th - October 24th). This is a stipend position that is based on experience in coaching and years involved in the sport. The Head Coach must be able to pass a background check, pass a CPR/AED basic life saving course and possess a valid Illinois drivers license to be able to drive any of the IMSA vehicles, which include up to a 14 passenger mini-bus. Any potential candidate must possess the skills to conduct practices with varying running drills & conditioning for increasing the performance of athletes, while also having the ability to manage a team.

Requirements

  • Experience in a high school coaching role or club setting is preferred.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Must pass a CPR/AED basic life saving course.
  • Possess a valid Illinois drivers license to be able to drive IMSA vehicles (up to a 14 passenger mini-bus).
  • Possess the skills to conduct practices with varying running drills & conditioning for increasing the performance of athletes.
  • Ability to manage a team.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain either of the following requirements as per IHSA By-Laws: (1) Possess a completion certificate of an approved IHSA coaching course (ASEP) OR (2) Currently, have a valid Teaching, School Administrator, Substitute Teaching, School Psychologist, School counselor, School Social Worker Certificate or be retired from teaching to meet the IHSA By-Law for coaching. (3) Completion of all IHSA mandatory training modules as required by the IHSA along with any State of Illinois mandated training modules, as prescribed and assigned by GCN/OneNet).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct practices with varying running drills & conditioning for increasing the performance of athletes.
  • Manage a team.
  • Work with the Coordinator of Athletics & Co-Curriculars for developing a competitive season of matches.
  • Work with food service staff to provide meals for the athletes when off campus.
  • Attend practices & matches from the start of the high school season to potential state finals.
  • Coordinate and supervise any overnight stays needed for post season competition during the state series of competition.
  • Transport students to practices & matches during the course of the high school season.
