About The Position

This position is for the 2026/27 season. Under direction, the role of the head coach is to lead the planning, development, and implementation of the policies, regulations, guidelines, and procedures pertaining to an interscholastic OSSA program. Head coaches provide leadership and vision within the program, and organize and conduct the athletic programs to meet the needs of the school district and their participants.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and understanding of the basic and advanced aspects of the sport.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with state, conference, league, and school training, rules, and regulations.
  • Understanding of child growth, development, and behavior with knowledge of assessment techniques and monitoring strategies.
  • Knowledge of policies, regulations, and procedures pertaining to interscholastic athletics and activities.
  • Knowledge of interscholastic sports groups and organizations within the local community and the greater metropolitan area.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid Red Cross First Aid Certificate, including CPR training methods and procedures.
  • Successful completion of Concussion Management and other training courses required by the OSAA.
  • Successful completion of the District’s background check process.
  • Two years of experience as a high school interscholastic coach.
  • Experience in, or understanding of sport to be coached.
  • Must meet OSAA standards for coaching certificate.
  • Knowledge of athletic conditioning and care/prevention of injuries.
  • Must be a minimum of 22 years of age.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of a valid TSPC license.
  • Possession of an earned baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college or university in physical education.
  • Bilingual proficiency and/or multicultural experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, development, and implementation of policies, regulations, guidelines, and procedures for an interscholastic OSSA program.
  • Provide leadership and vision within the program.
  • Organize and conduct athletic programs to meet the needs of the school district and participants.
  • Provide training and coaching through motivational techniques and strategies to improve individuals and group performance.
  • Supervise, direct, and evaluate subordinate personnel.
  • Provide leadership and vision for the individual sport program and all teams under their supervision.
  • Establish and maintain effective organization, community, and public relationships.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with diverse students, staff, and community populations.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, FERPA and adherence to competent and ethical educator practices.
  • Prioritize tasks, complete work assignments in a timely manner, take initiative, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate respectful, flexible, and effective teambuilding skills of cooperation, communication, and active participation.
  • Present self and ESD4J in a professional manner, including oral and written communication, professional disposition, and maintaining professional dress standards.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directives, find requested data, and present it in user-friendly formats for internal and public distribution.
  • Maintain regular attendance at work, be punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedules.
  • Utilize teleservice platform to provide services to educators, students, and district staff as directed.
