About The Position

This role is responsible for promoting the physical, emotional, and spiritual health and safety of all student-athletes by creating a consistently safe and supportive environment. The coach will operate in alignment with the school’s mission to provide an excellent Christ-centered education, using athletics as a platform for discipleship and growth. The position requires modeling Christ-centered leadership through exemplary sportsmanship, integrity, and conduct, while respecting and valuing each student-athlete as an individual. The coach will provide leadership and oversight for all aspects of the cross country program, collaborate with middle school coaches, and establish time commitments that honor academic, family, and faith responsibilities. A culture of belonging, accountability, and mutual support will be fostered. The role involves staying current with cross country strategies, KSHSAA regulations, and assisting student-athletes with post-high school planning. Communication with parents and collaboration with school personnel are also key components. Additionally, the coach will oversee equipment, encourage multi-sport participation, and support academically ineligible students.

Responsibilities

  • Coach in alignment with the school’s mission: to bring glory to God by providing children with an excellent Christ-centered education rooted in the Word of God, using athletics as a platform for discipleship and growth.
  • Model Christ-centered leadership through exemplary sportsmanship, integrity, and conduct on and off the playing field.
  • Respect, value, and dignify each student-athlete as an individual created in God’s image.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for all aspects of the cross country program.
  • Collaborate with middle school coaches to ensure unity in philosophy, expectations, and discipleship across the cross country program.
  • Establish and communicate time commitments that honor the primary importance of each student-athlete’s academic, family, and faith responsibilities.
  • Foster a culture of belonging, accountability, and mutual support among athletes and coaches.
  • Maintain awareness of current cross country strategies, skill development, and coaching best practices.
  • Maintain awareness and follow current KSHSAA regulations in the sport of cross country.
  • Assist student-athletes, when appropriate, with post–high school planning related to athletics and personal development.
  • Be available to parents at mutually convenient times and in accordance with athletic department communication guidelines.
  • Work collaboratively with school personnel to advocate for the holistic well-being of student-athletes.
  • Oversee the inventory, care, and maintenance of all cross country equipment.
  • Encourage and support multi-sport participation among student-athletes.
  • Support academically ineligible students by guiding, encouraging, and partnering with them toward eligibility and long-term success.
