About The Position

Abilene High School is seeking a Head Cross Country Coach starting in the 2027/28 school year. Responsibilities begin during the summer with preparation for the coming school year and the team’s runners. The coach will lead and develop the Abilene High School Cross Country program by building a positive team culture, improving individual and team performance, and fostering student-athlete growth, resilience, and competitive success. The role also contributes to a cohesive program supporting athlete development from middle school through high school and to the continued growth and success of Abilene Athletics.

Responsibilities

Plan and implement structured training programs focused on endurance, strength, race strategy, and individual improvement.
Develop student-athletes of varying experience and ability levels while promoting consistent progress and competitive excellence.
Organize and supervise practices, meets, team activities, and offseason development opportunities.
Collaborate with middle school coaches and high school track coaches to promote program alignment, consistent training philosophies, and long-term athlete development.
Communicate expectations, schedules, training plans, and pertinent information clearly with student-athletes and parents.
Establish a culture of accountability, sportsmanship, perseverance, and positive team relationships.
Monitor student-athlete safety, conditioning, and well-being while emphasizing proper training techniques and injury prevention.
Manage meet entries, equipment, team logistics, and other program responsibilities.
Build a cohesive cross country program that supports athlete development from middle school through high school.
Model and instill the department core values of Commitment, Effort, and Teamwork.
Serve as a positive leader and collaborator who contributes to the continued growth and success of Abilene Athletics.
