About The Position

The Cook prepares food for the students on both Glen Carbon and Edwardsville campuses, ensuring that activity occurs in a safe sanitary manner and following menus and diet guidelines. Prepares food for the School’s staff.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must have 2 years experience as a cook, prep cook or dietary aide
  • Knowledge of food preparation
  • Possess a sanitation certification
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment including convection oven, gas range, steamer, mixer, tilt-skillet, slicer, microwave and dishwasher.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds, able to stoop, crouch and grasp
  • Successful background clearance, physical and drug/alcohol screening

Responsibilities

  • Prepare all meals according to menus and recipes allowing for each specific diet and substitutions.
  • Ensure all menu items are attractive, have good taste and appeal, and are served on time.
  • Maintain all kitchen equipment to meet all applicable codes and regulations at all times.
  • Check food requests/field trips before beginning to prepare meals and utilize leftovers where possible.
  • Complete all tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Wear a safety belt during the entire shift due to lifting requirements.
  • Use effective hair restraints, along with proper attire and shoes during the work schedule.
  • Ensure all menu items are present on the proper cart and labeled for individuals, including necessary diets, substitutions, nourishment, and supplements as prescribed by diet order.
  • Maintain accurate records prior to the end of shift, including break logs and meals substitutions.
  • Complete prep for the next day's production before the shift ends and notify the person in charge of any needed items.
  • Successfully complete all required training.
  • Ensure inventory items are properly rotated and all items are returned to the proper shelf, covered, dated, and labeled.
  • Keep kitchen equipment up to codes at all times.
  • Assume responsibility as a mandated reporter concerning incidents of purported abuse/neglect of students as outlined in the agency’s policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
  • Prepare food for the Metro East Elementary campus and safely transport the cooked food prior to the start of breakfast and lunch.
  • Shop for groceries for both campuses twice a month and/or as needed.
