About The Position

UFIT is looking for experienced Head Coaches with strong collegiate, professional, or high-level competitive sports backgrounds to lead our school-based sports and athletic-development programs throughout Los Angeles County. We are especially interested in former NCAA Division I and Division II athletes and coaches, professional athletes, collegiate coaches, and proven high-level competitive coaches who can bring real athletic knowledge, leadership, discipline, and mentorship to young people. A UFIT Head Coach must be able to lead a complete program, develop other coaches, teach athletes, communicate with school leadership, solve problems, and take ownership of the quality of the site. As a UFIT Head Coach, you are the on-site leader responsible for both coaching quality and team performance.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of coaching, athletic instruction, player development, or comparable sports leadership experience
  • Strong competitive athletic or coaching background
  • Demonstrated ability to lead or mentor other coaches, instructors, athletes, or staff
  • Ability to confidently demonstrate and teach athletic skills
  • Understanding of progressive athlete development—not just games and drills
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to manage multiple student groups and coaching staff
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality
  • Professional communication with school personnel
  • Reliable transportation throughout Los Angeles County
  • Comfortable using mobile technology for attendance and program documentation

Nice To Haves

  • Former NCAA Division I or Division II athlete
  • NCAA collegiate coaching experience
  • Professional or semi-professional playing experience
  • Head Coach, Lead Coach, or Program Director experience
  • Degree in kinesiology, physical education, exercise science, sports management, education, or a related field
  • Experience developing athletes for collegiate competition
  • Multi-sport coaching experience
  • Experience working with elementary and/or middle school students

Responsibilities

  • Lead structured sports, physical education, and athletic-development programming.
  • Teach proper technique, movement, coordination, conditioning, teamwork, and sport-specific skills.
  • Demonstrate skills and break them into clear, age-appropriate progressions.
  • Keep students actively participating, learning, and improving.
  • Direct Assistant Coaches and assign staff to groups, drills, stations, and responsibilities.
  • Observe Assistant Coaches and provide clear coaching, feedback, and correction.
  • Develop newer coaches into stronger instructors and leaders.
  • Lead pre-program staff huddles and make sure the team understands the plan.
  • Maintain organized transitions, equipment, student groups, and program flow.
  • Identify safety concerns and make immediate adjustments when needed.
  • Communicate professionally with principals, teachers, administrators, and UFIT leadership.
  • Track student engagement, skill development, and program outcomes.
  • Complete required attendance, UFIT Motion, incident, and End-of-Day documentation.
  • Follow through on staffing, equipment, school requests, and operational issues until they are resolved or properly escalated.
