About The Position

West Liberty University is seeking applications for the Head Softball Coach. The Head Coach Softball performs responsible program building including, planning, coaching, recruiting, managing, and directing an institutional athletic program. The Head Coach Softball is responsible for managing various aspects of the athletic team to which assigned, including strength and conditioning, practicing, competing, scheduling, and student athlete retention. Job responsibilities require the ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgement based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities. Work activities are performed under limited supervision, working from established policies and objectives. This position exercises judgment in prioritizing, planning, and organizing own work within time, process, and results requirements; has some flexibility to modify workflow based on need and circumstances. Decisions made address non-routine questions and situations, requiring investigation and/or research or procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
  • At least 1 year of experience coaching in an athletic program relevant to the area of assignment in high school, junior college.
  • Strong verbal communication & listening skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to conceptualize and prioritize objectives as well as exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organization policies and activities.
  • Ability to operate effectively with minimal oversight.
  • Articulate and responsive to colleagues.
  • Ability to inspire and develop staff.
  • Ability to proactively approach responsibilities.
  • Ability to work effectively with staff, faculty, and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Successfully passing a background screening report is required for final employment.

Responsibilities

  • Coaches a team of student athletes.
  • Develops game strategy and position assignments.
  • Evaluates and recruits qualified student athletes, as well as ensures timely submission of their academic records for admissions.
  • Monitors students' class schedules, grades, and student athlete academic program.
  • Manages purchases of uniforms, equipment, and supplies, including accountability for expense control of the sports budget.
  • Adheres to all rules and regulations set forth for the team and institution, as well as the appropriate conference and athletic association.
  • Collaborates with personnel in the Athletics Department, attends department meetings and activities, and always represents the institution positively when interacting with the community, alumni, media, and general public.
  • Serves on a variety of university and higher education committees as requested.
