About The Position

Daemen University is seeking a Head Coach for its Men's and Women's Tennis programs. This role involves actively recruiting student-athletes, scheduling games and practices, and making scholarship recommendations. The Head Coach will contribute to the University's educational mission by providing instruction, direction, and coaching in tennis. Both programs will compete in DII and the PSAC starting in the 26-27 academic year. The position includes supervisory responsibility for assistant coaches, graduate assistants, and volunteer coaches. The Head Coach must operate within the rules and regulations of the University, NCAA, and PSAC, understanding the potential consequences of violations. Confidentiality of all information is expected, with violations subject to disciplinary action up to termination.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree, master's preferred in related field is required with coaching experience.
  • At least one-year of coaching experience in tennis at an NAIA, NJCCA and/or NCAA Division I, II, III institution.
  • Valid driver's license required. License must meet insurance company rules and regulations for driving underwriting criteria.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills.
  • Evidence of, and ability to articulate, a strong, current, practical knowledge of the sport of tennis.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully coach college level student-athletes.
  • Knowledge of coaching and teaching techniques and the ability to effectively use them.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
  • Ability to drive a personal or university vehicle for the purpose of college business on a regular basis and ability to travel when necessary.
  • Knowledge of recruiting techniques and the ability to effectively use them.
  • Current certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating the instruction of student-athletes in tennis training and competition.
  • Recruiting student-athletes for both men's and women's tennis programs.
  • Instructing methods and strategies and coaching student-athletes in the sport.
  • Making decisions regarding scholarships.
  • Scheduling practices and games.
  • Being responsible for the transport and supervision of players while on the road.
  • Supervising assistant coaching staff and performing performance appraisals.
  • Participating in sport-specific and department-wide fundraising initiatives.
  • Conducting camps/clinics in the sport of tennis.
  • Developing avenues for community engagement and student-athlete personal/career development.
  • Working with the Vice President of Athletics, or designee, regarding the specific sport budget to ensure fiscal responsibility for all aspects of the program, including facility rental.
  • Operating the program under the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, and the PSAC.
  • Providing all material relevant to the team (ensuring institutional, NCAA and PSAC compliance) in a timely manner.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Athletics or designee.
